Netflix has an enviable catalog that practically no other streaming platform can match. And it’s not just that it has incredible original series, but it also has a string of top-notch movies that take us straight to live great cinematic experiences.
Among all its catalog, we can find an adventure saga that, in the previous decade, marked an entire generation. I’m talking about The Hunger Games, the adaptation starring Jennifer Lawrence of Suzanne Collins’ books that catapulted the saga to worldwide fame. However, Netflix is about to remove these movies from its catalog. You only have until May 31st to watch them on the streaming platform.
The dawn of the rebellion
Directed by Gary Ross, The Hunger Games transports us to the post-apocalyptic Panem, a nation divided into twelve districts governed by the opulent Capitol. Every year, the Capitol organizes The Hunger Games, a brutal and televised event where two teenage tributes from each district fight to the death until only one survives.
The protagonist, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence), is a 16-year-old girl from the impoverished District 12. When her sister Prim is selected as a tribute, Katniss volunteers to take her place. Alongside Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson), the male tribute from District 12, Katniss is transported to the Capitol, where they are trained and prepared for the competition.

In the arena, a controlled environment full of deadly traps, Katniss must use her wit and survival skills to stay alive. Her relationship with Peeta becomes complicated when he declares his love for her, adding emotional drama to the competition. After this movie, several others followed that continue to tell the story of Katniss and the subsequent rebellion she leads. Without a doubt, a gem to consider if you haven’t seen it yet.
