We knew that Round8 Studio, the team behind Lies of P, was working on at least two games after the success of its first game. A DLC, which is the highly acclaimed Overture that they already released a few months ago, and a sequel to the soulslike based on the story of Pinocchio that put them on everyone’s radar. They already showed us a teaser for it with a post-credits scene that showed us ruby slippers that left little doubt about the direction they were headed in. And it’s now confirmed by the trademark they’ve registered.
A fitting story to make into a soulslike
Neowiz, the publisher of Round8 Studio’s games, has registered the trademark Wonders of O. Something that suggests what Lies of P’s post-credits scene was hinting at: that the game’s sequel will be based on the legendary story of The Wizard of Oz. Since the red shoes are an iconic reference to Dorothy, the main character of that story.
The Wizard of Oz has enormous potential to become a dark and tremendously twisted story, full of violence and terrible enemies, because the original story already had some unusual moments in that regard. So it seems Round8 Studio has managed to choose a very interesting subject to build on the themes of its hit game in one of the few soulslikes that have truly managed to capture the feel of FromSoftware’s games. And while we don’t have any details or a release date, we can expect that we’ll learn more about Wonders of O in the coming months.
