Companies have been paying a lot of attention lately to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 generation. Porting games from that generation and reviving franchises that were born then has become the new gem of the industry. This is logical considering that it is a generation where it is easy to polish things to make them look and feel better, but it does not require a tremendous amount of work. And the latest arrival has been a small cult wonder.
Lollipop Chainsaw is a game developed by Suda51 and James Gunn for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 that puts us in the shoes of a cheerleader and the living brain of her boyfriend who had to face a zombie invasion at their high school. Last year they confirmed that we would have a remaster of the game, but information has been coming in dribs and drabs—until its first official trailer was released, where the floodgates opened.
Named Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, it has been confirmed that it will be released on September 25, 2024. The first trailer, which is two and a half minutes long, shows a substantial improvement in graphics and a change in character designs, more stylized and slightly more cartoonish than the original.
One of the most interesting elements of this remaster is that it will have two different modes. The Original Mode will have the effects of the original game, not changing anything. However, the RePOP Mode will change to have less violence and have damage effects more inspired by pop art. In this way, we can choose between the purely gory effects of the original, or a more fun and crazy approach that they have sought to experiment with in this remaster.
In addition to being released on September 25, 2024, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. They have also confirmed that the game will have physical editions, but they have not yet confirmed who will publish them or what their prices will be.
