This October, Mazda launched the EZ-6 in China, an ambitious entry into the electric vehicle market with a starting price of 139,800 yuan (approximately $20,000).
The electric sedan quickly gained traction, selling nearly 2,500 units in its first month, making it one of the top three mid-size NEV sedans from joint venture brands in the region.
The model is expected to hit European and other markets later this year, with a global version, dubbed the 6e, already in development.
EZ-6: Mazda’s Ambitious Electric Vehicle Enters Market with Fast Charging Capabilities
The EZ-6 features multiple powertrain options, including fully electric and extended-range configurations, boasting a driving range of up to 600 km (373 miles) on the Chinese test cycle.
Furthermore, the vehicle can recharge from 30% to 80% in just 15 minutes, enhancing its appeal for practical use. In Europe, this sedan will be available with two battery options—68 kWh and 80 kWh—offering ranges of up to 479 km (300 miles) and 552 km (343 miles), respectively, according to the WLTP cycle.
In a recent unveiling in Nanjing, Mazda showcased a sporty variant of the EZ-6 designed to attract younger drivers. Sporting distinct aesthetics, the EZ-6 sports edition features black side skirts, upgraded wheels, and a “combat-style” interior adorned with suede seats and red stitching.
These updates will likely set it apart in a competitive market, although specific pricing for this variant has yet to be announced.
In terms of dimensions, the EZ-6 mirrors the Tesla Model 3 closely, measuring 4,921 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,491 mm in height, making it a formidable contender in the burgeoning electric sedan segment. As Mazda gears up for a broader international roll-out, anticipation builds around how these offerings will perform in global markets.
