Many will fondly remember the PlayStation 2, a legendary console that managed to capture the hearts of millions of children (and adults) around the globe. Its 160 million units sold prove it, making it one of the best-selling video game consoles in history. However, Nintendo Switch threatens to surpass it, at least in the United States.
This is indicated by Mat Piscatella, executive director and advisor within Circana. From his X profile, Piscatella stated that Switch is only 1.1 million units away from matching PlayStation 2 sales in America. Things are also looking good for Xbox: Series X/S is getting closer to surpassing Xbox 360 in the same category. In his post, he also clarifies that PlayStation 5 is 7% ahead of PlayStation 4 in global sales.
These sales figures demonstrate that the console world is not as dead as many believe. In addition, Nintendo Switch is closing the gap with PlayStation 2 more and more, now in total. As of June 30th, the Nintendo Switch console family had sold a total of 143.42 million units worldwide.
