Onimusha: Way of the Sword gets its PS5 release date: September 25, 2026

Capcom will release Onimusha: Way of the Sword on September 25, 2026 for PS5. It’s the first brand-new mainline Onimusha in more than 20 years, and it’s arriving in a month that’s already packed.

The calendar around it is crowded fast. The Blood of Dawnwalker hits on September 3, Marvel’s Wolverine follows on September 15, Dune: Awakening lands on September 22, and then Control Resonant and Silent Hill: Townfall both show up on September 24.

Even so, Onimusha: Way of the Sword producer Akihito Kadowaki says the team is “not worried.” Capcom seems confident that the Issen combat system, along with the new protagonist Musashi, will give the game enough of its own identity to break through.

Taken together, that makes Onimusha: Way of the Sword feel less like a small nostalgia revival and more like a full prestige action release. Pre-orders are already live, there’s a playable demo out, and that’s happening while other publishers have shifted games like Valor Mortis and Lords of the Fallen II to get out of the traffic.

If you’ve been waiting for Onimusha to come back, this looks like one to pick up when it arrives, though reviews and early impressions, and how Capcom handles its messaging outside Western markets will probably decide how big this gets.
