Phantom Blade Zero gets a launch trailer and a physical edition… but not at launch

S-GAME has released the launch trailer for its wuxia-inspired Action RPG, Phantom Blade Zero. Published by Sony, this game promises to put us in the shoes of a legendary hero capable of all kinds of martial feats and of combining an offensive and defensive style at the same time in a setting that mixes fantasy and horror in what its developers call kungfupunk.

Phantom Blade will also get a physical release

The big surprise regarding its release is that, on top of that, Phantom Blade Zero will get a physical edition. Though not at launch. There will be standard, deluxe, and collector’s editions, and they’ve already announced that they’ll share more details about each one later, since they won’t be released until 2027. And it’s a surprise because, around a week ago, the studio stated that, although they were interested in putting out a physical edition of the game, the game would be released only digitally at PlayStation’s own behest.

Phantom Blade Zero is a spiritual rebirth, as the studio describes it, of Rainblood: Town of Death, a Chinese indie RPG released in 2010 that never left its home country. Expanding into three sequels —the second of which is available in English on Steam, Rain Blood Chronicles: Mirage—, the franchise is very popular in China, even if it’s virtually unknown in the West. This is shown by the game having three million confirmed pre-orders. That could make it the surprise hit of 2026 when it launches on October 29, 2026.
