If PSN (PlayStation Network) is not available in your country, chances are you won’t be able to get Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut for PC. Currently, platforms like Steam and Green Man Gaming are automatically refunding anyone who tries to purchase the game from any of these countries.
It is ironic considering that just over a week ago, Sucker Punch, the developer behind Ghost of Tsushima, assured Steam players that they were not required to register on PSN if they only wanted to play the campaign.
According to The Verge, none of the parties involved have commented on the matter, at least for now. Likewise, players are voicing their complaints on social media, where many point out that they pre-ordered the game only to find out later that their order had been canceled.
In the case of Steam, the platform is sending the following message to players who have seen the money returned to their account:
“You are receiving a refund for a game you had pre-purchased, Ghost of Tsushima. The publisher of this title now requires a secondary account to play certain portions of this game – and such account cannot be created from your country”.
Helldivers 2 and the obligation to use PSN
Unavoidably, the situation reminds us of what happened recently with Helldivers 2. At the beginning of the month, Sony announced that linking a PSN account with Helldivers 2 would be mandatory to play. As expected, this caused such an uproar that the game received a flood of negative reviews. Consequently, Sony reversed its decision. However, Steam did not lift the sales restrictions.
On the other hand, the CEO of Arrowhead Studios, Johan Pilestedt, stated that he is trying by all means to get PlayStation and Valve to cancel these restrictions.
