Recording your PC games will be much easier thanks to Steam’s new feature, Game Recording. With it, we will be able to record and share any gameplay sequence from our Steam library.
Although it is still in testing phase, players will be able to use this feature to record any clip of what they are playing. Additionally, you will also be able to edit them and do whatever you want with them, such as uploading them to social media.
We will have two recording modes to choose from: Background Recording and Manual Recording. According to Steam itself, in the first one “Steam will start recording video automatically when you start playing […] The last 120 minutes of video will be saved so you can play them back or save them as clips”.
If you choose Record manually, “Steam will only start recording when you press Ctrl + F11. All recordings are automatically saved as clips”. You can also stay as before and not record anything, something you can do simply by disabling the option.
To ensure your privacy, Steam only records your gameplay, not your desktop. You will be able to select the audio channels that will be captured and then, all clips will be saved locally.
This option is available in both the desktop version of Steam and Steamdeck, as long as you are running the beta version of Steam. To access it, go to Settings, then Interface, and finally Participation in the client beta. To configure the recordings, select Settings again and then Game recording.
