Capcom reportedly hasn’t put a Resident Evil 5 remake near the top of the list, at least for now. That comes from longtime Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem. Capcom, for its part, hasn’t confirmed anything and hasn’t shut it down either.
So Resident Evil 5 is still sitting squarely in rumor territory.
Recent chatter around the series points elsewhere first. The projects getting mentioned more often are Resident Evil: Code Veronica, which is reportedly aiming for 2027, and Resident Evil Zero.
Still, it’s not hard to understand why a lot of fans see a Resident Evil 5 remake as a matter of when, not if.
Capcom’s latest sales numbers make the case pretty clearly. The Resident Evil series has now sold more than 201 million units in total, and Capcom moved 23 million copies from March 2025 to March 2026 alone. Those same figures list Resident Evil Requiem at 6.9 million sold. Resident Evil 4 Remake also showed that going back to older games isn’t some small gesture to longtime fans anymore. It’s become a real part of Capcom’s business.
The bigger issue, though, may not be the tech.
A remake of Resident Evil 5 would probably have to take a hard look at the 2009 original’s imagery, its colonial overtones, and the racial stereotypes tied up in it, while still keeping the co-op focus that a lot of players see as the whole point of the game. If you follow Resident Evil rumors, this is still one to keep an eye on, even if it doesn’t look especially likely in the near future. Right now, there isn’t anything new to install: Capcom hasn’t announced a Resident Evil 5 remake, and the original is still the only version available on current platforms.
