Rockstar Games is facing growing calls online to let a terminally ill Grand Theft Auto fan play Grand Theft Auto VI before release. In a Reddit post that has since been deleted, the fan’s daughter said her father has stage 4 lung cancer, is in hospice care, may have only weeks left, and wants to experience the Rockstar title he’d been waiting years for.
She said he put thousands of hours into earlier Grand Theft Auto games and even bought a PlayStation 5 for Grand Theft Auto VI. The family, according to the post, would provide proof of his diagnosis, show his long history with the series, and sign an NDA or any other legal paperwork Rockstar might ask for.
The request didn’t stay on Reddit for long. It spread to social media, where fans are urging others to contact Rockstar through support channels and press emails, though some people have also pointed out the security, logistical, and legal problems tied to giving early access to a game this tightly protected.
If you’ve been following Grand Theft Auto VI closely, this situation is one to keep an eye on. Rockstar hasn’t said anything publicly, the original Reddit post is no longer visible, and some fans think its disappearance could point to privacy concerns or to private contact happening behind the scenes.
There is at least some precedent, based on past reports. A Ubisoft developer reportedly got a positive response from Rockstar in January 2026 in a similar case, and other publishers, including Bethesda, have supported final-wish gaming requests, sometimes through Make-A-Wish.
