Apple released last February 8 a new update for Safari Technology Preview, an experimental browser that was first introduced in March 2016. This version of Safari is designed to test new functions and features that will later see the light of day in the browser.
The new Safari Technology Preview version 163 includes the always welcome bug fixes and performance improvements for Web Inspector, Web API, Safari Web Extensions and more. The current Safari Technology Preview version is 16.4 and is compatible with Macs running macOS Monterey and macOS Ventura (the latest version available).
Apple’s goal with Safari Technology Preview is to gather feedback from developers and users to improve the browser. If you eventually decide to try Safari Technology Preview, you’ll be happy to know that it can run side-by-side with the global version of Safari.
How do I install this Safari update?
This version of Safari Technology Preview is available for download via Software Update in System Preferences. If you want to see for yourself what’s new in this update, you can visit the Safari Technology Preview website itself. Although the browser is designed primarily for professionals, you do not need to register a developer account to download it.
