Spotify reportedly has a price for its HiFi tier: it would be more expensive than paying for Netflix in 4K

It is the most widely used streaming music service in the world, with over 200 million monthly users. During this time, Spotify has raised its prices several times and promised a HiFi tier for audiophiles.

Fortunately for many, the highly anticipated HiFi tier could be on the verge of launching. Code from the Spotify app reveals new details about the Supremium tier, which could include 24-bit lossless audio, the ability to create AI-generated playlists, and more, as discovered by a Reddit user.

Spotify first announced the more expensive HiFi tier in February 2021, but the feature has remained in limbo since then. The last time we heard about this tier was in June of this year when a Bloomberg report revealed that Spotify had renamed the HiFi tier to “Supremium.”

The Redditor’s findings corroborate this claim, as they say that Spotify now refers to the audio as “lossless and lag-free.”

Additionally, the Redditor discovered that the Supremium tier could offer 30 hours of audiobooks per month, along with the ability to sort the library by mood, activity, and genre.

Nearly 20 euros per month for listening to music in good quality

After digging a bit deeper into the app’s code, the Redditor discovered that the price for Supremium is $19.99 per month, although they caution that it “might be just a placeholder.”

However, the price does align with other tests we’ve seen. Last year, a Spotify survey mentioned a “Platinum” tier priced at $19.99 that would include HiFi and other features.

With Spotify’s existing Premium plan priced at $10.99, it’s not clear whether HiFi audio, AI-generated playlists, and some of the other features found in the code are enough to entice customers to pay nearly $20 per month.

After all, Apple Music and Amazon Music offer lossless audio in their current plans at no additional cost.
