STALKER 2 gets Cost of Hope on August 20: free 2.0 update arrives too
GSC Game World says STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl is getting Cost of Hope on August 20, 2026. It’s the survival shooter’s first major story expansion since launch, and it arrives the same day as the free 2.0 update.
The studio says this add-on is the first of two planned narrative DLC packs for STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl. You’re back as Skif, pulled into a new Duty-versus-Freedom clash after a mysterious PDA signal sets things in motion. GSC is promising dozens of hours of gameplay, new locations including the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant and the Iron Forest, plus new characters and weapons.
Update 2.0, which goes out to everyone who owns the base game, sounds bigger than a standard bug-fix patch. GSC says it adds new content, technical improvements, and moves the game to a newer version of Unreal Engine 5. Players will be watching the usual pressure points, especially performance , stability, and A-Life, given how rough the launch was.
If you bounced off early because the game felt unfinished, or you’ve just been waiting for a good reason to head back into the Zone, this could be it. The reaction so far has been broadly positive, which also says something about how much this still means to the community following GSC Game World through the war in Ukraine, after the studio said part of the team had relocated to Prague.
Cost of Hope goes live on August 20. Base-game owners get Update 2.0 that same day, and GSC says a second story DLC is still planned for later.
