Submerged arrives with a “behind the scenes” and this list of upcoming immersive releases

Apple has taken a big step in filmmaking with the release of Submerged, its first scripted short film in immersive video format, exclusive to the Vision Pro. A project that is already available for free on the Apple TV app in the countries where the Vision Pro is available.

The first piece of a change in the film industry

Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Edward Berger, Submerged literally immerses us alongside a World War II submarine, where the crew fights to survive a devastating torpedo attack. The perspective is, without a doubt, something unique.

This is demonstrated by the very interesting video (above these lines) that shows the creation process of Submerged. A “behind the scenes” look, where Berger himself discusses the challenges and opportunities offered by the immersive format, stating that this technology can change the future of cinema.

This launch marks, along with the plans for the MSL Playoffs, the beginning of a series of immersive content scheduled for the remainder of 2024. Among the most anticipated releases is a short film from the NBA All-Star Weekend 2024, available on October 17. In November, The Weeknd will present an immersive music video with a new song, and in December, the Adventure series will bring an episode following a freediver attempting to break their record under ice.

With releases like Submerged and a promising immersive content schedule, Apple is clearly setting the stage for the Vision Pro to transform the way we enjoy cinema. We are no longer mere spectators; we are at the center of the action.
