Players will also get some Snoopified words of encouragement. “Cap ’em and shank ’em,” says Snoop while a player takes out an enemy.

The Snoop Dogg voice pack will be available on Xbox Live on April 22nd for $2.99. Infinity ward promises to bring the voice pack to other platforms later.

Call of Duty: Ghosts Review

From the very first minutes of gameplay in Call of Duty: Ghosts, I’ve been catapulted straight into a game that feels exactly like an American blockbuster movie. Although, its not quite a 21st century blockbuster movie.

I’m in space, in what appears to be an American space station. Very soon, everything speeds up. Someone passes me a machine gun. I’m shot from behind and everything explodes in all directions. Woah, I thought.

Despite the initial excitement, I can’t help but recall Moonraker, a film where James Bond is on the trail of a mad scientist that takes him from Venice to Rio before finally being blasted into space to fight people wearing pastel colors and shooting laser guns. It’s an avalanche of scenes, one more fantastic than the other. Entertaining, yes, but also very kitsch, the best of the worst with cardboard props and hanging strings seen from a mile away. Unfortunetly, this is the type of blockbuster that comes to mind when I played Call of Duty: Ghosts.

According to Activision, Call of Duty: Ghosts will be the must-have game for the new generation of consoles. Let’s see if this FPS game has what it takes to live up to its claims.

A bleak scenario

In a context of global economic crisis, several oil-producing South American countries combine to form the Federation, a new superpower that will benefit from its hegemonic position to turn against, as I’m sure you’ve already guessed, the United States. The single player campaign of Call of Duty: Ghosts begins the moment the Federation takes control of an American space station and launches a large-scale orbital attack on the United States.

Call of Duty: Ghosts awkwardly attempts to tug on your heart strings by telling the story of two brothers and their German Shepherd who, almost through no fault of their own, take part in reconquering their native land. No, this year, it will no longer be the single player campaign that will inspire people to buy Call of Duty: Ghosts.

One for thrill seekers… on rails

Call of Duty: Ghosts

The heroes can count on Riley, their German Shepherd.

Like its illustrious predecessors, the single player campaign of Call of Duty: Ghosts takes it cues from blockbuster movies, throwing us straight into the action from the first minutes of play. It explodes in all directions where bullets abound and blood spurts, creating genuine entertainment for thrill seekers. The only problem, is that it’s mounted on its rails.

There’s no time to improvise. The single player campaign leaves very little room for interaction, which is the last thing you want in a video game. The player basically has to follow, more or less quickly, the orders that appear on screen, which have been given by the other characters.

I was surprised to find that level gameplay was a vague system of checkpoints and objectives that weren’t always very clear. Small flaws were compensated for by the linear aspect of the traditional corridor levels that we expect from this series.

But not everything has been thrown into the single player campaign in Call of Duty: Ghosts. Our two brothers in arms will always be able to count on Riley, their dog, in brief phases of gameplay that showcase stealth. Unfortunately, you’re not actually able to control their four legged friend at any point, what surely seems like a missed opportunity.

Multiplayer: (almost) all quiet on the Western Front…

Call of Duty: Ghosts

The new customization system offers nearly 20,000 different possibilities.

Trigger-happy junkies can rest assured, Call of Duty: Ghosts hasn’t changed – or at least has barely changed – its celebrated multiplayer mode! The new features include 14 new maps, the ability to slide along the ground, a new customization system offering nearly 20,000 different possibilities, female avatars, 7 new game modes, and 20 new Killstreaks (bonuses that reward a certain number of enemies killed in succession), including the dogs of war!

As is common in the series, Call of Duty: Ghosts doesn’t really leave room for tactics, and it’s the reflexes, memorization, and attitude of the players that will reap the rewards.

The new Squad Points system allows all players, in theory, to customize their characters and adapt their equipment to their type of game play. Unfortunately, you need to play lots of matches online before you can raise the amount of points required to purchase better weapons and accessories.

The system isn’t particularly easy and could put off less patient players or newcomers to the game. Fortunately, beginners will have Squad mode to become familiar with the mechanics of the multi-player game and the chance to win Squad Points before coming up against hordes of bloodthirsty players.

These are subtle changes that hopefully won’t turn fans away from the genre.

Extinction: the diamond in the rough

Call of Duty: Ghosts

In Extinction, you have to try and repel an alien invasion.

The real surprise of Call of Duty: Ghosts comes in the form of Extinction, a fabulous multiplayer co-op mode that’s fun, refreshing and full of great ideas. In Horde mode revisited, you attempt to repel an alien invasion along with 3 other players. Your main objective is to fight successive waves of enemies and destroy the hives of the invader with limited resources.

There’s also no more mindless shooting found in the single player campaign. In Extinction mode, you’ll need to buy your weapons and ammunition with money earned by completing the game objectives and shooting down aliens; it’s a crucial detail which adds a dimension of both strategy and invigorating survival to the mode.

There’s also the new system of exciting challenges, the terrible environmental traps (gas cylinders, electrified areas, and controlled fires) and the techniques involved in mastering aerobatics. In truth, Extinction is single-handidly good enough to justify purchasing Call of Duty: Ghosts, a real demonstration of the creative potential of Infinity Ward studio.

Visible strings

Call of Duty: Ghosts

Call of Duty: Ghosts doesn’t shown its full potential on the current generation of consoles.

I tested Call of Duty: Ghosts on the Playstation 3 and I have to admit that I wasn’t particularly impressed with the graphics of the game. Between low-resolution textures and frozen facial animations, Call of Duty: Ghosts doesn’t show its full potential on current generation consoles. Fortunately, great particle effects, deformation of the maps, and the animations of Riley come together to improve a package that isn’t particularly showy.

Verdict: spectral pallor

With Call of Duty: Ghosts, Infinity Ward delivers a collection of disjointed experiences with mixed quality. The multiplayer mode, the major asset of the series, has been enhanced with subtle improvements that perfect an already proven game mechanic without taking enough risks to permanently draw attention to them. But if Call of Duty: Ghosts remains, despite everything, a good action game, it’ll be interesting to see how the Activision title will fare against a new generation of first-person shooters like the ambitious Titanfall and Destiny.

Despite a mixed critical reception, Moonraker remains one of the most successful movies in the James Bond franchise. With a billion dollar revenue on its first day of release, it’s likely that Call of Duty: Ghosts will share a similar fate.

Score: 7.5/10

Call of Duty: Ghosts is available on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.

Call of Duty: Ghosts launches today

Call of Duty: Ghosts launches today, November 5, on PS3, Wii U, Xbox 360 and PC. It’s the 10th installment in the main branch of the series from Infinity Ward, the same developer that’s brought us the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare trilogy.

The latest version has 3 main game modes:

Campaign: you play as a Ghost, an elite soldier whose mission is to save the United States in the fateful near future.

Multiplayer: the new online mode adds new features, like destructable maps, the Squads sub-mode and a complex personalization system.

Extinction: this is an evolution of the “zombie mode” we’ve seen before in Black Ops 1 and 2. This time, you and 3 friends will fight an alien presence.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is also expected for PS4 and Xbox One. The game will be released for each at the same time as the consoles themselves Xbox One (November 22) and PS4 (November 29).

Will Call of Duty: Ghosts live up to expectations? Recently, Battlefield 4 has awoken more interest among the general public. Our own Chris saw a demo at E3, and was underwhelmed. General opinion seems to believe that CoD is a tired franchise that’s way past its expiry date. We’ll have to wait to see if the public really is done with Call of Duty.

Call of Duty: Ghosts minimum PC requirements confirmed

Activision’s upcoming Call of Duty: Ghosts has finally had its minimum PC specifications revealed. Surprisingly, it requires more RAM and HD space than the competing Battlefield 4.

The surprise comes mainly because while Battlefield 4 has a shiny new Frostbite engine, and looks seriously impressive, Call of Duty: Ghosts uses an updated version of the engine used in previous COD games. You’ll need at least 6GB of RAM, and 40GB of hard disk space.

2013 is the first year since 2007’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare that a Call of Duty game hasn’t felt like a big event. There hasn’t been any huge controversy, like the ‘No Russian’ level caused, and there’s a general feeling that the series has failed to innovate enough to remain exciting. Call of Duty: Ghosts is also unlikely to break any sales record this year, in the wake of the all conquering GTA V.

When we saw an early version of the game this year, it felt very much like more of the same, while Battlefield 4 looks bolder, brighter and more visceral than any mainstream first person shooter we’ve seen before.

Despite these concerns, Call of Duty: Ghosts will undoubtedly be a big hit. Check out the full minimum specs below,

Minimum System Requirements:

  • OS: Windows 7 64-Bit / Windows 8 64-Bit
  • CPU: Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E8200 2.66 GHZ / AMD Phenom™ X3 8750 2.4 GHZ or better
  • Memory: 6 GB RAM
  • Hard Disk Space: 40 GB
  • Video: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTS 450 / ATI® Radeon™ HD 5870 or better
  • Sound: DirectX compatible sound card
  • DirectX®: DirectX® 11
  • Internet: Broadband Internet connection for Steam and Online Multiplayer.

Watch 6 new Call of Duty: Ghosts trailers

Activision has released 6 new trailers for Call of Duty: Ghosts, featuring ‘real world’ people recounting their experiences playing the game. Interestingly EA did something very similar with Battlefield 4 last month: could this be another sign that maybe Activision’s franchise has fallen behind?

The trailers are supposed to be funny, and that might be true, but they don’t necessarily make Call of Duty look good. Each is set in a ‘normal’ scenario, like dinner, tea time, night shift and so on. Check them out below. What do you think?

Battlefield 4’s ‘Only in Battlefied‘ trailer series wasn’t satirical, and showed us some of the ridiculous things we could be doing in multiplayer mode next month. They got the tone of the game, and gamers right, whereas these funny Activision spots make Call of Duty: Ghosts online multiplayer seem a little sad. That probably isn’t the intention.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is out November 5th in the US, and November 9th in Europe.

[Gamescom 2013] Call of Duty Ghosts: a first look at multiplayer

After trying out a few campaign missions in Call of Duty: Ghosts at E3, we were finally able to try out multiplayer at Gamescom 2013, specifically the PS4 version. Gameplay hasn’t changed much, but it’s worth taking a look the new options and modes that will delight CoD fans. Start of Brightcove Player

Design your soldier

In Call of Duty: Ghosts, customization options let you personalize your soldier and create 20,000 different combinations. This means you won’t see two soldiers the same in the multiplayer mode. Even better, it now includes women, a great new feature which will please many female CoD players.

Obviously, customizing your soldier isn’t just about aesthetics, you can also choose your weapons. Among the options you’ll find marksman rifles, IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices), canister bombs (you throw them and they explode after a few seconds) or various types of grenades.

Perks – it’s all about the points

Customizing your soldier is great, but one aspect that’s always important for Call of Duty fans is the perks system. Ghosts debuts a new one, this time based on points.

You start with 8 points, which can increase up to 11 if you get rid of your secondary weapons. With these points you can buy perks, the cheapest of which cost one point and the most expensive, five. With this system you can set your number of perks to your liking; strengthening the skills you’re good at, or making improvements that make you indispensable. One of these is our highly-anticipated new best friend. Yes, even your faithful dog gets into multiplayer as a perk.

This new system aims to revolutionize the franchise and establish itself as a new model that other games will surely copy. Do you like this new system of perks or do you prefer what we’ve seen in CoD Black Ops 2 and other games in the Call of Duty series?

Squads: a mode that goes beyond multiplayer

Call of Duty Ghosts lets  you create your own squad of up to 10 soldiers. They will gain combat experience and, even better, there are no limits on their use.

With the new Squads mode you can take your elite soldiers and put them into combat in any game mode: alone against the AI and cooperatively or competitively against your friends or any other CoD user.

Like the new perks, the Squads mode is also meant to be a turning point in the series, as it combines the best of the classic multiplayer modes with much more advanced AI. When we say AI, we’re talking about the AI of your fellow soldiers, who act in a much more logically than before: they can shoot while they’re jumping, they offer better coverage and act accordingly to the weapons they’re equipped with.

Within the Squad submodes you’ll find Squad vs Squad, where you pit your squad against a friend’s squad;  Wargame, where your squad faces another AI squad or Safeguard, a mode inspired by Modern Warfare 3’s Survival mode.

New modes for the classic player

If your idea of multiplayer is more traditional, you’ll be pleased to know that some new modes have been debuted in Call of Duty: Ghosts and we were able to test them at the Gamescom demo.

The first mode we tried was Search and Rescue. In this mode, similar to Kill Confirmed for Black Ops 2, when you die you drop your badge: if a teammate picks it up you keep playing, but if your opponent does, you’ll be dead until the next round begins.

We also tried Blitz, an interesting twist on the classic Capture the Flag. This time the action focuses on points of the map where you generate battles for control of the territory. These battles allow you to enter enemy territory and score a point, while your opponents return to the starting point … It’ll take a few seconds, just enough to regroup, and then another battle begins. When the time runs out, whoever has the most points, wins. In reality, Blitz is just a variation on what we’ve seen hundreds of times in other games, but we appreciate Infinity Ward’s attempt to revitalize it.

The third mode we saw was Cracked, which takes the basic themes of the classic Team Deathmatch but with a twist: when you kill an enemy you have 30 seconds to eliminate another. If you fail, you explode and are blown to bits!

CoD 24/7

It seems that the future of the FPS is going social. We saw this in the new Killzone for PS4, and now we’ve seen it in Call of Duty: Ghosts. Activision’s slogan – COD, Anywhere – seems pretty spot on. The developers want you to be connected to your game at all times and to share your achievements with the community.

To this end, we have the CoD profile, which allows you to store your multiplayer game data in the cloud and access it from any console. Furthermore, with the new smartphone app you can check your stats, connect with other fans and, more importantly, use it as a second screen for your Ghosts games.

When it comes to connectivity, Activision also talked about clan wars, a game in parallel with the general multiplayer.

¿Is CoD better in multiplayer?

We warned you at E3 that for all the spectacular features and new friends that have been added, the single player mode of Call of Duty: Ghosts left us unimpressed.

So what did we make of multiplayer? Well, revolution is probably pushing it, but at the very least the new modes, the Squads function and the new Perks system have convinced us.

Are you addicted to Call of Duty multiplayer

Original article written by Maria Baeta, published on Softonic ES.

Call of Duty: Ghosts Squad modes offer solo, co-op, and competitive gameplay

Along with new online multiplayer modes in Call of Duty: Ghosts like “Cranked” and “Search and Rescue”, Infinity Ward announced that there will be a focus on utilizing your created squad for battle against friends, enemies, and the game’s improved A.I. The best part of these modes is that you are still able to earn XP.

The four different modes include 1-on-1 battles, called Squad versus Squad, where you and five of your created soldiers go against another player online and five of their squad members.

Wargame is a mode where you and five squad members fight against a full squad of bots based off the data from Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer. These bots will use strategy that is common with some of the top players so expect a challenge.

Safeguard is a wave-based mode. You and your squad survive against oncoming enemies.

The last is Squad Assault. This mode allows you to team up with five other players and fight against a six member A.I. squad composed by a member of the team. This allows you to test your teamwork ability with other real life players. It’s possible this will be a good testing ground for new strategy by clans. Squad Assault will also support A.I. squad members if you can’t find other players online.

The squad modes are beginning to overshadow the regular multiplayer in Call of Duty: Ghosts. With the ability to earn XP and unlocks outside of normal multiplayer modes, these modes are good for testing loadouts and strategy.

Additional information from Polygon.

Call of Duty: Ghosts introduces Squads and custom unlocks

Squads will be a big part of Call of Duty: Ghosts. As opposed to creating one character and reaching Prestige multiple times, Call of Duty: Ghosts allows players to create squads.

Along with squads, Infinity Ward revealed a new weapon class called Marksman. A midway point between assault and sniper classes, this new class allows players better use of scopes for up close and ranged combat.

Containing up to 10 individual soldiers, players can create different soldiers. Squads allow players to create multiple types of classes to play with. It also opens the ability to learn all the different classes that Call of Duty: Ghosts offers without being stuck in one class all the time.

You earn experience points (XP) through multiplayer. XP helps your overall score, but you will also earn “Squad Points.” These points are used to unlock new weapons and streaks to use in the game. Attachments and disposables will not cost squad points. This means that if you earn enough points, you can unlock one of the more powerful weapons earlier, rather than have to wait for the proper level to be reached.

Created soldiers Prestige separately and you know retain all unlocks once you reach Prestige.

Call of Duty: Ghosts allows account transfers from current to next generation consoles

One of the major surprises from the Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer presentation is that players will be able to transfer their COD account from current generation consoles to next generation systems using the Call of Duty app.

This includes all your character progressions for your squad as well as purchased DLC. Transfer of DLC will only be available to those who purchase the Season Pass.

While hardcore fans will probably be buying Call of Duty: Ghosts on its release day, the same can’t be said if they will buy a next generation console as well. With the ability to transfer information using the Call of Duty app, it doesn’t really matter as your information will come with you to the next gen console whenever you upgrade.

Infinity Ward also revealed that clans will support members playing on current and next generation consoles.

Player customization expands in Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer, including playable female soldiers

Class customization has existed in the many versions of Call of Duty multiplayer but what’s been missing is character customization.

Call of Duty: Ghosts will offer expanded character customization options that haven’t existed before. When creating a character for Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer, you are given options to swap body parts like the head and body frame. These changes are not purely cosmetic as they will affect the gameplay during matches.

Infinity Ward claimed that there are 20,000 possible customizations for players including character models and different weapons, perks, and streak packages.

You are now given the choice to play as a female soldier. Infinity Ward didn’t discuss any more details regarding using a female character, like if the hit detection boxes were smaller because of the smaller character frame.

Ghosts adds 30 new weapons into multiplayer along with the various attachments that can be added.

Perks have been changed from older titles. You are given a set point value. Perks have different point values depending on what they are and you can add multiple 1 point perks or swap in higher point perks to give you a personalized set. It’s possible to remove your secondary weapon and add more points for perks.

Also added are 20 new killstreaks and the removal of deathstreaks.

Infinity Ward stated that all improvements to Call of Duty: Ghosts would be fully implemented in current and next generation consoles.
