Fruit Ninja gets a free halloween Ghostbusters update

After the huge changes of version 2.0, Fruit Ninja now has another free update for Halloween. Celebrating its 30th anniversary, you’ll now get new Ghostbusters blade and dojo in the game.

The new Ghostbusters features work as follows. The Ghostbusters blade works like the proton beams from the movies, and at the very least looks cool. Its power-up allows you to ‘cross beams’, making a huge explosion of photon beams to destroy all fruit on screen.

The Ghostbusters Dojo includes ghost traps, that the team in the movie used to.. trap ghosts. When one appears, you can slash it open to release lots of fruit on screen, giving you an excellent combo scoring opportunity. There is also Ghostbusters fruit, which is ‘well past its use-by date’.

Fruit Ninja is available for iOS and Android.

As we reported last week, there’s a great way to use your free time this weekend: Fruit Ninja 2.0 is out now for iOS and Android devices. Billed as the game’s biggest ever update, it’s a good reason to start playing it again.

Fruit Ninja 2.0 introduces new powers, new menus and new characters from the game’s universe ‘Fruitasia’.

The new powers are not only cosmetic, but have effects in game too, giving you more points for combos or extra time, and there’s an experience system so the more you play the more powerful you’ll become. Fruit Ninja features in-app purchases, so you can speed your progress, but it’s possible for parents to disable these.

The new characters from Fruitasia give the game a fresh feel, and more depth. You can still play Classic and Zen modes, but it’s the Arcade mode that’s the main thing after this update.

Major update for Fruit Ninja coming in October (video)

Fruit Ninja, the massively popular iOS, Android and Windows Phone game, is getting a major update this October. Developer Halfbrick announced the news alongside the first of five ‘Ninjas in Training’ trailers launched on YouTube.

This isn’t the typical app update. Halfbrick says it has rebuilt the game from scratch to include a new menu system, new graphical effects for weapons, and new locations. There will be leaderboards in the new Fruit Ninja, so you can compare your skills with your friends.

Fruit Ninja was released in 2010 and has gone on to be downloaded over 500 million times, making it one of the most successful mobile games ever. Available in free and premium versions, it’s unusual in that it doesn’t have a stream of sequels to cash in on its success, like Angry Birds or Temple Run.

Fish Out of Water, the next game from Fruit Ninja developer Halfbrick [video]

The developers of Fruit Ninja, Halfbrick Studios, released more information about its upcoming game, Fish Out of Water. The trailer shows off a cast of cartoon fish with tons of powerups. The game will be released tomorrow, April 18th for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Fish Out of Water looks like a mashup between Angry Birds and Tiny Wings where players will have to flick a fish as far as possible and help it skim across the water. There are tons of powerups and collectables throughout the level to keep the player engaged. Levels are dynamic, meaning the weather and obstacles change as you progress through the levels. At the end of each game, a group of five crabs will give you scores that are averaged into your overall score.

The game will cost $0.99 in the Apple App Store and will be a universal app that works across devices.
