Google has confirmed the launch of Lite, the new low-cost subscription plan for the Google One service, in India, Brazil, Mexico, and Indonesia. Although Google One Lite was originally launched only in India, Android Authority reported that a select group of users in Brazil, Mexico, and Indonesia have had access to this cheaper plan for a few days now.

On September 10, Android Authority reported that Google had begun rolling out the Google One Lite plan in India. This tier offers 30 GB of storage for Google Photos, Google Drive, and Gmail at a price of 59 rupees per month. This amount is approximately $0.70, which is considerably cheaper than the “Basic” option of Google One with 100 GB, which costs $2 per month. However, the Lite plan does not include other features, such as the ability to share storage with family members, an advantage that Apple does offer with its iCloud+ plan of 50 GB for $1 per month.

Shortly after, it was revealed that users in India who opt for Google One Lite can get a discount if they purchase an annual subscription, which reduces the total price by 16%. However, many choose the monthly subscription due to its low initial cost, an option clearly aimed at users with a tighter budget.

Google One Lite was first discovered in July, when references to the plan were found in the code of the Google Photos app. A few days ago, Google began testing the plan in India, and now it is expanding to more markets, although only to a fairly limited selection of countries.

For now, the company has not confirmed whether it will extend this offer to other territories, nor the prices it would have in the United States, Europe, and other regions if it finally does, but it states that it will evaluate customer response before making decisions in this regard.

Google will allow you to monitor the dark web completely for free

Google will expand its dark web monitoring service to all users with a Google account starting at the end of this month. This feature, which monitors the leakage of stolen information such as phone numbers and physical addresses of Google One subscribers, will now be available at no additional cost.

According to a Google support page, the service will be integrated at the end of July in the “Results about you” section of Google, a tool that’s only available in some countries, like the United States, and that already allows you to check and request the removal of personal contact information stored by Google, such as home addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses.

Google ensures that this measure will provide a “combined solution to help users protect their online presence”. Although there are other services, both free and paid, that scan the dark web for personal data and send alerts, integrating these functions into Google is much more convenient for platform users.

With this new measure, two previously added advantages for the more than 100 million Google One subscribers will disappear, a subscription with costs starting at 1.99 euros per month (around $2.15). Last month, Google announced that its VPN by Google One service will close at the end of this year. Although these were probably not the main reasons for subscribing to Google One, the removal of these advantages without a corresponding price reduction could discourage many users from subscribing or even resubscribing to the service.

The main reason to subscribe to Google One is to get more storage space for all Google apps, including Drive, Photos, and Gmail. Although it offers other advantages too, such as premium video calls on Google Meet, the ability to share storage with up to five people, and improved appointment scheduling on Google Calendar, none are as appealing as the increased storage.

According to 9to5Google, a new banner in the Google One app for Android indicates the discontinuation of the free VPN service in early summer. Google advises macOS and Windows users to uninstall the app, while Android and iPhone users should disable the VPN from the Benefits section of the app before removing the VPN profile in Settings.

Google has stated that it will redirect resources towards improving other Google One features, justifying the closure due to low usage of the service. However, users of Pixel 7 or later will continue to enjoy free access to VPN, as they will switch to an integrated VPN service. This transition will be done through a system update scheduled for June 3rd of this year.

Despite the discontinuation of the free VPN service, Google will not modify its pricing structure for Google One, keeping the same rates for users.

Google One VPN is finally available to iOS users

Google only entered the world of VPNs in the last few years. So far, the Google One VPN service has only been available to Android users. After what seems like an eternity, Google has just announced the One VPN that has iOS users excited

Yesterday, Google announced that the Google One VPN is now available to iOS users with a Premium subscription plan that includes 2TB or more cloud storage. This follows the release of Google One VPNs to Android users in October 2020. At this point, the tech giant promised iOS users that they are working on bringing the same VPN service to iOS devices as well.

In the meantime, iOS users could use the VPN provided by Google Fi, which is a cellular service available to both Android and iOS users. However, those Apple users who aren’t using Google Fi can now use One VPN.

The Google One VPN can be shared with up to five members across Android and iOS platforms at no extra cost apart from the monthly premium subscription. This means that users can share the VPN protection with their family or household and ensure that everyone is protected while browsing the internet.

The VPN service allows users to stream, download and browse content over an encrypted connection. It also provides additional protection on public Wi-Fi and cellular networks. Another benefit of this VPN is that it masks your IP address so that websites can’t determine your location and track you.

A VPN service is a great protection measure and having one included that you can share with five family members is a bonus. We’re just wondering why this feature wasn’t available to iOS users since the beginning and why there was such a long delay?
