Apple’s foldable iPhone is already getting praise: one key feature stands out

Recent reports point to September 2026 for Apple’s first foldable iPhone. The picture coming from those leaks is a book-style design, with a 7.8-inch inner display, a 5.5-inch outer screen, and a starting price that’s reportedly expected to land above $2,000.

What stands out in the early leak chatter isn’t just the hardware list, but how the phone is supposed to feel day to day. It reportedly folds into a shape that’s easier to slip into a pocket, seems solid around the hinge, and may handle the larger screen better than a lot of current foldables. The big claim is that apps behave more like iPad layouts instead of looking like stretched iPhone screens. If Apple gets multitasking right and actually makes that extra screen space useful, this could feel like a real two-in-one device rather than a novelty.

That would put Apple’s foldable iPhone right up against Samsung’s foldables, likely including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 by then. Analyst estimates also suggest Apple could still take as much as 46% of the North American foldable market in its first year, especially if you’ve been waiting to see Apple’s version of the category.

There are still some big unknowns. Battery life, real-world software performance, international availability, and whether rumored trade-offs like no telephoto camera and Touch ID in the power button, rather than Face ID, actually make the final cut.

There’s nothing to download yet, but reports expect Apple’s foldable iPhone to arrive alongside the Apple iPhone 18 Pro line.
