The new NBA 2K24 is already among us and many of its players have come across a “surprise” at least curious: its huge requirements of space on the hard disk. In fact, it exceeds even Starfield’s requirements.
When downloading NBA 2K24, users have come across a figure that many probably did not expect: 161.4 GB of space the basketball simulator needs to run on Xbox. Thus, NBA 2K24 approaches the size of games like Call of Duty: Warzone and surpasses Starfield, which is left with a “modest” 125 GB if we want to play on Xbox.
And if you’re someone who likes to try out the latest releases, you might have a tough time if you have an Xbox Series S. If you wanted to install Starfield and NBA 2K24 on Microsoft’s cheapest console, you would have taken up almost 80% of the console.
But that’s not all, as these numbers may increase, and a lot. The first day patches and so on could fatten the amount even more, although we still don’t know very well the reasons for these high figures.
Increasingly heavy games: is it an inescapable destiny?
It is no secret that with each passing year, games become more and more demanding, which increases their size. This is a logical consequence of the evolution of the medium, but how far can we limit it?
Returning to Call of Duty: Warzone, this is undoubtedly one of the titles that has brought the most bitterness to gamers. According to Activision, it takes up about 175 GB on PC, but if you add Modern Warfare, the size can exceed 250 GB. What’s more, if we compare NBA 2K24 with its predecessor, we can see that the latter didn’t skimp on space either, with its 152 GB requirements.
There are a number of very clear dividers here: games are looking and sounding better and better. Open worlds are becoming more and more common and our gaming equipment has improved considerably over the years. Moreover, one of the components that has become cheaper over time is, precisely, hard disks.
