Surviving Slender Man Origins 2

With Halloween arriving on Friday, it’s time to jump into games that offer more than mindless action and carnage. Gaming’s horror genre offers a lot of variety, from the survival horror of Resident Evil to more psychological scares of Slender: The Arrival. We decided to take some of our favorite horror games and play them in celebration of Halloween.

Nick continued his Slenderman streak and played Slender Man Origins 2 for Halloween. It’s another spin-off that uses the existing mythology and transplants him into a castle instead of the woods.

Slender Rising 2 released for iOS

Slender Rising 2 is now available for iOS. Launched last week, it’s the sequel to probably the best Slender mobile game, although there are more bad Slender games than good.

Slender Rising 2 has good graphics, and adds two new locations to explore while avoiding the Slender man. There are now two game modes, one where you have to ‘liberate lost souls from the Slender curse’, and the other where you have to find messages hidden in the maps while escaping the monster.

The developer of Slender Rising 2 admits his debt to the PC original ‘Slender: The Eight Pages‘, but Slender Rising does add to that game. As well as using the Unreal Engine, which makes it graphically more impressive, this mobile version has more game modes and options.

7 million people downloaded Slender Rising, so can this sequel build on that, or has the excitement for Slender man died down?

How to download and install Slender

Slender is the original game in what has become a terrifying but extremely popular series based on internet folklore of The Slender Man myth. Slender: The Eight Pages is a free, first person horror game in which your only objective is to walk carefully through a dark forest with nothing but a flashlight in the hopes of finding 8 manuscripts about the paranormal creature known as the “Slender Man”. It sounds simple enough, but you must do this while trying to avoid the Slender Man.

If you’ve been meaning to try the Slender series and want to start at the beginning, but are having trouble installing the game, follow the simple steps below to get started with the terrifying adventure.

1. Download Slender

You can download Slender for Windows or Slender for Mac. The installation instructions found below are based on Windows, but you can install Slender for Mac in virtually the same way.

2. Unzip the Slender file

If you don’t have an archive tool already installed on your computer, download and install either WinZip or WinRAR. If you’re using a Mac, try archive tools like The Unarchiver or WinZip for Mac.

Once its been downloaded, click on the Slender v0.9.7 file and select “Extract To” from the top bar menu (if you’re using WinRAR, as in the image below). Select the folder where you want to content to be extracted to.

3. Extract the files

Once you’ve chosen the folder you want to extract Slender to, click ‘Okay’ and wait for the files to extract.

4. Open the folder

Once it’s been extracted, simply double-click on the Slender folder and open the game file.

5. Configure graphics

You can configure the resolution, graphics quality and chose whether you want to play in full screen or window mode. Then click Play, and you’re ready to start the terrifying search for The Eight Pages.

Slender: The Eight Pages may not be the most graphically advanced or complicated PC game, but it’s simplicity and creepy atmosphere are what have made the game such a success. The newest installment in the series, Slender: The Arrival, is sure to keep the terror coming.

Slender: The Arrival to be released October 28th

An official Slender Man game was rumored to be arriving around Halloween, and now Midnight City has announced that Slender: The Arrival will be officially released on October 28th on Steam for $9.99.

Developed by Blue Isle Studios with help from Parsec Productions,  the creative team of Marble Hornets, and Slender Man creator Eric “Victor Surge” Knudson, Slender: The Arrival expands on the mythology of Slender Man.

The story of Slender: The Arrival is about Lauren, a realtor, who is helping her friend, Kate, sell her house. After finding a note and empty house, Lauren goes searching for her friend and finds that there are “things” stalking her every move.

Slender: The Arrival contains seven levels and now includes a camcorder along with the flashlight. Among the seven levels is extended content from the original independent release. The game will also support the Oculus Rift. Slender: The Arrival is also scheduled for a console release in Q1 2014.

Slender: The Arrival coming to Steam for Halloween

Slender: The Arrival will arrive on Steam in time for Halloween. The horror sequel was released earlier this year after the huge viral success of Slender: The Eight Pages.

The improved graphics and expanded locations in Slender: The Arrival didn’t add much to the creepy lo-fi charms of the original game, but for anyone who wants more Slenderman, it provides. Slender: The Eight Pages is an important game as it proved that big budget horror games weren’t being scary enough. The gore and jumps of games like Dead Space don’t always get under your skin in the same way as a creepy atmosphere, and the fear of the unknown.

Slender wasn’t the first indie horror game, but it was free and alongside other titles like Amnesia and 2D games like Lone Survivor made indie horror games a big deal. The game also benefited from the YouTube phenomenon of waklthroughs that include the screaming reactions of players (like PewDiePie).

When it arrives on Steam at Halloween, Slender: The Arrival will have new content, although we have no information about what that content will be.

Slender: The Arrival out now – watch the introduction

Slender: The Arrival is out now, and available for Windows and Mac. The sequel to the massively popular free horror phenomenon Slender: The Eight Pages, developer Parsec Studios has expanded the original concept, adding a story and more to the experience.
The game is split into five stages.
Check out the opening of the game in our video below.

As we saw when the beta was released in February, the improved graphics are the first thing you notice. But the beta only showed us the basic Slender gameplay, which was a bit disappointing. I don’t want to spoil anything, but Slender: The Arrival does have more variety and more depth than The Eight Pages.

Will Slender: The Arrival repeat the massive success of the original?

Slender: The Arrival Preview (Video)

The final release of Slender: The Arrival for Mac and Windows is just around the corner, on 26th March, so we’ve taken a look at how it compares with 2012 viral sensation Slender: The Eight Pages.

Despite promises from the developer that Slender The Arrival would feature a more complex plot, it doesn’t seem all that different from the original i.e. you simply collect eight pages and avoid the horrendous slender freak voyeur that is Slenderman. Slender: The Arrival is, however, slicker than the original with a more interesting forest. Check out how we got on in Slender: The Arrival (spoiler alert: not very well).
