There’s no simple way to explain this, but let’s give it a try: in the new video Nintendo released to promote the game, we see Bowser offering a rose to the princess before she turns into an elephant. Then, the enemy leaves for a moment and returns with a whole bouquet prepared. Something in the Peach-elephant has awakened previously unheard-of feelings in him.

The memes didn’t take long to appear, from Peach’s slightly annoyed – not terrified – expression upon seeing her personal enemy and kidnapper, to Bowser’s face of discovery of something very internal, and the famous “Joke’s on you.
