While he is recognized for his work as an actor, Keanu Reeves is a multifaceted artist. In love with books, he is also an editor, writer, and screenwriter. Nothing escapes him and following him in all his escapades is quite difficult. That’s why you probably don’t know that he has written a comic book together with Matt Kindt. And it is also very interesting.
Named BRZRKR, it is the story of an immortal viking warrior who agrees to work for a dark organization in the United States in exchange for them experimenting on him to discover if it is possible to kill him. Navigating between his memories and the missions they send him on in the present, it is a mix of action series with an introspective character, reminiscent of Wolverine, although with his own way of approaching his immortality. He even has a spinoff in the form of a novel.
During Comic-Con it was announced that BRZRKR will have an anime series by Production I.G. Although that was in 2022. What has been announced at this year’s Comic-Con is that the anime project is still ongoing and, more importantly, Mattson Tomlin will be the writer and showrunner of the series.
If you don’t know Tomlin, you will probably know him soon. Being the showrunner of the Terminator Zero anime, produced by Netflix, he also wrote the initial script for the excellent The Batman, as well as being in charge of writing the script for the future live-action Mega Man movie. A movie that we didn’t have on our radar, but that certainly arouses all our interest.
However, BRZRK still doesn’t have a release date. First, Netflix will adapt the story into a movie and then continue with a spinoff in the form of an anime, but the project doesn’t have specific dates. Regarding the people involved, we know that in the anime, in addition to his appearance, Keanu Reeves will also lend his voice to the protagonist. So, although we would love to know more, we will have to continue waiting patiently to see how this very interesting multimedia project materializes.
