The launch of Dispatch for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 has been controversial due to being censored, as a result of the guidelines imposed by Nintendo that require mandatory visual filters. This situation has raised concerns among fans, as the versions for PS5 and PC are not subject to this restriction, leading to questions about the consistency of the company’s censorship policies.
Censorship dispatched
Censorship is mainly associated with Japan’s CERO system, responsible for age rating of video games. However, the misunderstanding arises when noticing that other titles, such as The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077, have not been censored even though CD Projekt created specific versions for different regions. This detail has generated skepticism regarding the decision of AdHoc Studio, the developer of Dispatch, not to follow a similar path.
In statements to Go Nintendo, a representative from AdHoc indicated that legally they could not provide more details about the reasons that prevented the creation of different regional versions. This lack of information has left the community at a dead end, fueling speculation about possible legal complications that may have influenced the decision.
Despite the censorship, AdHoc and Nintendo are working on an update that aims to address at least part of the affected content. However, they have made it clear that there will be no physical version of the game that omits the adjusted content. Natalie Herman, the game’s lead producer, expressed her hope that a version without changes could eventually be released, although it currently seems unlikely.
