The trailer begins with a shocking narrative, in which a character reminiscent of Hellraiser assaults a divided humanity using a flying ship, designed in the style of the Warhammer 40,000 Empire, accompanied by an army of demons. To counter this threat, humans decide to unleash the Doom Slayer, using him as a powerful weapon.
The trailer highlights a renewed focus on combat, prioritizing close-range elimination mechanics instead of the characteristic glory kills. The executions have been simplified and are now mainly reserved for the major demon bosses, which has sparked some debate among fans.
The Doom Slayer, increasingly medieval
Despite these reservations, the trailer showcases a series of novel weapons including a throwable shield and a crossbow that resembles the BFG, along with the ability to pilot a mech or ride a dragon, which adds an element of excitement to the game. Doom: The Dark Ages is scheduled to be released on May 15, and users will be able to add it to their wishlist on Steam.
It is worth noting that the trailer launch coincided with wrestler Drew McIntyre’s entry at Wrestlemania, which paled in comparison to the impressive presentation of the new title.
