What happens when your game collaborates with a streamer who later falls from grace? Nothing good

If you pay attention to the news about streamers and Internet influencers, you will know what happened with Dr. Disrespect, who admitted that in 2020 he was banned from Twitch for having “inappropriate” conversations with a minor (although he insists that there were no photos or anything illegal involved). After that, he lost, one by one, all the brands that supported him, but there was still one left: the game Rogue Company.

In the company of streamers

If the title of this online shooter doesn’t sound familiar to you, it’s normal: although in 2020 it had 15 million simultaneous players in its beta version, the truth is that it hasn’t been updated for years. At least, until now: its producer, Hi-Rez Studios, has decided to permanently remove the skin they launched four years ago of Dr. Disrespect that cost $40… and refund the money in the form of “Rogue Bucks,” the in-game currency, something that hasn’t sat well with fans, who feel cheated.

Well, to be honest, the skin only costed $20, but you could buy another $20 worth of streamer accessories. In other words, they have taken people’s money without giving them practically anything in return, especially considering that Rogue Company is, at this point, one of many zombie games that survive based on a small community.

It’s not the only game that has erased him from its code: NBA 2K24 removed his appearance and the $200 sponsored headphones have been wiped from the internet as if they had never existed. Despite the streamer insisting that after a vacation with his family, he will come back with the same strength as before, it seems to be just a bluff, and that his career is definitely over, especially considering that even YouTube has removed his monetization. Who would have thought there would be consequences for his terrible actions!

Has Dr Disrespect’s career ended? Everything points to yes

The world of big streamers, like any other group of celebrities, can be very opaque. Especially when it comes to the most questionable things they do. That’s why it can take months or even years for us to discover some of the things they have done, if we ever find out at all. Or at least, if we get to know the details. Because whether we like it or not, when you have a certain amount of power, it’s very difficult for the consequences to catch up with us.

Or at least, they should do it in a way that exposes them to the public. If not, just ask Herschel “Guy” Beahm, better known as Dr Disrespect. An extremely well-known streamer in the mid-2010s, but who has been missing for the past few years. In fact, the last we heard of him is that recently, the company Midnight Society, co-founded by Beahm himself, has decided to expel him in what seems like a completely sudden decision. Except that it hasn’t been sudden at all.

Beahm was expelled from Twitch four years ago without further reasons being given. Last Friday, Midnight Society announced that they have become aware of the allegations against Guy Beahm aka Dr. Disrespect. These accusations, later confirmed by Beahm himself, are that he sent sexually explicit messages to a seventeen-year-old minor with the intention of having an affair. Something that Beahm says he feels ashamed of not because she was a minor, but because he is a married man with children.

The reason for Twitch’s expulsion in 2020 seems to be due to this reason. Although Twitch has not explicitly clarified it, two former Twitch employees have alleged inappropriate behavior by the streamer, it seems that the platform created a special committee to decide how to handle the situation as discreetly and decisively as possible. This has made it even more difficult to confirm the situation, as if any kind of information were to be leaked, it would have been very easy to know who among those involved is the one who caused the issue.

Despite the fact that Dr Disrespect’s character has been very popular over the years, after his expulsion from Twitch, he has not been able to take off in the same way. That’s why it shouldn’t surprise us if, after this controversy, the streamer’s career has come to an end. With the main streaming platform banning him, making the reasons public, and his own company expelling him, it seems that it’s time for him to face the consequences. Although who knows. As we said, when you have a certain amount of power, it’s very difficult for the consequences to catch up with you.
