The team responsible for Dune 2 has expressed their discontent after the 2025 Oscars, where the film only managed to win two awards: Best Sound and Best Visual Effects. Despite its ambitions, the production has been surprised by the lack of nominations in key categories such as Best Picture and Best Director, where many, including actor Josh Brolin, consider it a sacrilege that Denis Villeneuve has not been recognized.
Hans Zimmer, a loser with opinions
Hans Zimmer, the acclaimed composer of the Dune 2 soundtrack, has also expressed his disappointment at not receiving a nomination, suggesting that the Academy’s rules are inadequate. In a recent conversation with Josh Horowitz, Zimmer emphasized that the current criteria do not benefit sequels, and that his previous work may have influenced the lack of consideration for Dune: Messiah, projecting a complicated path for future recognition.
In addition, in the same context, Zimmer has commented on his decision not to collaborate again with Christopher Nolan. “Sometimes you need to refresh your creative palette,” he explained. He emphasized that, although his friendship with Nolan is very strong, his collaboration with Denis Villeneuve in the Dune universe is also significant. Regarding his future projects, the composer shared that his next work will be in F1, the movie starring Brad Pitt.
The controversy surrounding the 2025 Oscars reflects the tensions between innovative productions and established traditions in the Academy, and the lack of recognition for Dune 2 raises questions about the criteria and selection processes of the most prestigious awards in the film industry.
