On March 22, two decades will be commemorated since the launch of the iconic first video game in the God of War saga. This special date marks an important milestone in the history of the franchise, which has evolved considerably since its debut on PlayStation 2. To celebrate this anniversary, Santa Monica Studio has announced the arrival of a free update titled Dark Odyssey Collection, which will be available starting March 20 for God of War: Ragnarök, both on its PlayStation version and on PC.
The best outfits of Kratos and Atreus
The Dark Odyssey Collection will include a series of nostalgic skins for the main characters, Kratos and Atreus, that evoke their appearances from previous installments. For example, players will be able to disguise Kratos as the Ghost of Sparta with an alternate look from God of War 2, originally obtained by completing the game on God difficulty mode. However, to apply these new skins to the weapons, it will be necessary to have the enhanced version of each weapon, which adds a level of challenge for players who wish to customize their experience.
Access to these new appearances can be obtained either by opening lost item chests within the game or automatically through the free DLC Valhalla. This will allow players to rediscover their weapons and characters while celebrating the legacy of the saga.
Despite the speculation within the community about a possible remastering of the classic God of War trilogy, Santa Monica Studio has confirmed that there will be no additional port during this celebration. The company has decided to focus on new content and enhance the experience of God of War: Ragnarök, keeping the essence of the series alive while aiming for the future.
