We already know almost the entire cast

Baldur, in the God of War universe, is presented as a powerful and enraged deity, which indicates that Skrein will have a wide range of intense action scenes and spectacular confrontations at his disposal.

The choice of an actor with experience in these types of roles suggests that the production is taking seriously the delivery of a faithful and exciting representation of the character.

So far, the casting of the series has progressed quickly, with most of the relevant characters already confirmed. Ryan Hurst will play Kratos, while Callum Vinson will portray Atreus.

Additionally, Mandy Patinkin will be Odin, and Thor will be played by Ólafur Darri Ólafsson. Other characters like Mimir and Heimdall will also have assigned actors, completing a strong and diverse cast.

With the recent inclusion of Skrein, the number of characters we still don’t know who will be played by has significantly decreased. The next big announcement is expected to be the revelation of the actor who will portray Tyr, a giant god in Norse mythology. As the cast solidifies, fans can look forward to more details about filming dates and the actors’ characterizations in the near future.

The plot, which will move away from ancient Greece, will focus on the journey of Kratos and his son Atreus in Norse mythology, particularly on their mission to spread Faye’s ashes in Jotunheim.

Stay tuned for upcoming announcements about your casting

One of the first actors confirmed for the cast is Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, who will play Thor, one of the most important and memorable gods in the franchise. Known for his role in the series Severance and for his experience in the world of video games, where he has lent his voice to characters in titles like For Honor and The Last Worker, Ólafsson faces the challenge of embodying a robust and powerful Thor, as portrayed in God of War: Ragnarok. This character, who had a limited presence in God of War (2018), gained prominence in the sequel, standing out for his brutality and exceptional skills.

In addition to Ólafsson, Max Parker will play Heimdall. Announcements of more actors for other key characters like Atreus, Mimir, and Odin are expected in the coming weeks. Little by little we are learning more details about the cast, and surely we will have more news and new faces very soon.

The God of War series seeks to offer a new perspective on Kratos’ narrative, moving away from his past in Greece to delve into the richness of Norse mythology, which could translate into a fresh and exciting experience for both video game fans and lovers of cinema and television.

Ronald D. Moore, showrunner of the highly anticipated God of War series for Prime Video, confirmed at the recent San Diego Comic-Con that the project will be based on the last two video games in the franchise, which follow the tumultuous journey of Kratos and Atreus through Norse mythology. The series has been greenlit for two seasons, with the first consisting of 10 episodes, and is currently in the writing phase, as Moore himself has indicated.

The new adventure of Kratos and Atreus

In his statements, Moore emphasized that the team behind the script is making good progress, highlighting that their immersion in the story and mythology of God of War has been fascinating and enriching. The producer expressed his intention to capture the epic tone that characterizes the video games, combining a visually appealing aesthetic. The journey focuses on the moving story of Kratos and Atreus, honoring the memory of Kratos’ wife and Atreus’ mother, Moore told IGN.

Despite the enthusiasm generated, many fans remain skeptical about the fidelity of the adaptation and the respect for the original source, a valid concern after past experiences with other adaptations. However, the involvement of Cory Barlog, director of the original games, adds a level of confidence to the project. Moore praised Barlog as a genius and stated that his deep knowledge of mythology and narrative elements will be an invaluable resource during production.

For the moment, the start date for filming has not been specified, as the writing of the scripts is still ongoing. As development progresses, God of War fans remain eager for the possibility of a careful representation of this iconic universe on the small screen.
