Bella Ramsey, the young actress who plays Ellie in the acclaimed series The Last of Us, has revealed that her preparation for season 2 was intensive and demanding. In this new installment, which adapts the plot of the second video game in the franchise, Ellie will be presented as a more mature and stronger version of herself, facing new and more dangerous infected. “It was great to feel really capable,” Ramsey said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
A workout that shows in the series
During her training, Ramsey underwent a rigorous regimen that included boxing, jiu-jitsu, and weight training, alternating between filming and stunt training. Despite her dedication, the actress expressed her concern about not emulating the physical appearance of the character in the video game, particularly regarding the muscle definition in her arms. “I didn’t see myself as Ellie in the game, and my body type isn’t like that,” Ramsey admitted. However, her goal was to reflect the strength and confidence of the character, something she extensively discussed with showrunner Craig Mazin.
Since the beginning of the series, some fans have commented on the resemblance of Bella to Ellie in the video game, but both Mazin and Neil Druckmann, co-creator of the series and the video games, are convinced that they have found the perfect talent in Ramsey. It is worth noting that in this new season, Ellie is 19 years old, which aligns with the actress’s own growth, who is now older than the character she portrays in the series.
The new episodes of The Last of Us season 2 premiere weekly on HBO and Max in the U.S. and Europe, as well as on Sky and NOW in the UK. Fans of the series can check the release schedule to not miss any episode of this exciting continuation.
