The next big bet from Apple TV is Cape Fear. Not just a remake, but the remake of a cult thriller by Martin Scorsese from 1991, which was already a remake of a cult thriller by J. Lee Thompson from 1962, adapting the novel The Executioners by John D. MacDonald. A whole matryoshka of remakes that, despite everything, has only left us with cult works so far.
The Cape of Fear is now even scarier
The new trailer for the series seems to focus even more on the horror than the Scorsese film did, which was famous for bordering on the genre in its tensest moments, while exploiting its very particular story. That of a criminal seeking revenge against the defense attorneys who let him go to prison and, in particular, against his two minor children.
With a careful and very particular selection of shots, an unsettling atmosphere, and a dark color grading, this trailer seems to want to emphasize a much more horror tone than previous versions. Including the parody made by The Simpsons in the second episode of the fifth season, Cape Feare. Something that is aided by the choice of Javier Bardem to play Max Cady, the criminal protagonist and nightmare of the Bowden family, whom he will torment throughout the series. One of the most talented actors to portray an unsettling psychopath willing to do anything to achieve his goals.
With a release date set for June 5, we will have to wait less than a month to see this remake of an absolute classic in theaters. Something that will help us determine whether we need to add another version to a classic or see if, for the first time, they fail in the attempt.
