Halo: Campaign Evolved will be released in 2026 as a faithful and modernized remake of the iconic original game, with a clear focus on reviving the essence that has captured the fans of the saga since its debut. Developed in Unreal Engine 5, this project marks a significant shift following the discontinuation of the Slipstream engine. The decision to move the series to this new platform aims not only to enhance the graphics but also to offer new possibilities for players.
A remake to bring back what made Halo special
The game includes support for online cooperative play for up to four players and allows cross-platform play, which will significantly expand the player base. Additionally, three new missions focused on Master Chief and Sergeant Johnson have been introduced, taking place before the events of Combat Evolved. This aims to reconnect Halo veterans with new generations and to create an active and healthy community around the game.
Executive producer Damon Conn has stated that this title is an opportunity to “pave the way for the future of Halo.” With a careful restoration of the narrative and gameplay, the Halo Studios team is committed to recreating every mission and cinematic from scratch, taking into account player feedback to enhance the experience. “It’s important for us to be authentic to what players loved,” says creative director Max Szlagor.
In addition to enhancing the gameplay experience, the developers have implemented significant changes, such as the ability to use the Energy Sword and the Wraith, thus expanding gameplay and strategies on the battlefield. Halo: Campaign Evolved will also make its debut on PlayStation, marking a milestone as the most important Xbox franchise to land outside its ecosystem, a move aimed at attracting new players and reviving interest in the series.
