The recent film by Guy Ritchie, titled The Fountain of Eternal Youth, has managed to dethrone The Secret Abyss from the top spot in the Top 1 most viewed movies on Apple TV+ since its release on May 23. This new film has burst onto the platform’s catalog, reaching number one in 99 countries in just four days, highlighting its remarkable reception among the audience.
A movie with a premise that is already in the title
The feature film, starring Natalie Portman and John Krasinski, tells the story of two estranged brothers who embark on a global adventure following a surprising call from Luke (Krasinski) to Charlotte (Portman). As the plot unfolds, Charlotte discovers her brother’s connections to a mysterious millionaire and his quest for the legendary fountain of eternal youth. Alongside them is Esme (Eiza González), who also has an interest in this coveted artifact.
With a luxurious budget of 180 million dollars, The Fountain of Youth promises spectacular action scenes. However, despite its commercial success, reviews have been mixed. Many critics consider the film to be mere streaming entertainment, easily forgettable in the short term. Sara Heredia’s review on SensaCine gives it 3.5 stars, suggesting that while there is a nostalgic appeal, the film lacks the substance to linger in the viewer’s memory.
This latest release from Ritchie follows his previous work, The Ministry of Dirty War, released on Prime Video less than a year ago, consolidating the English director in the landscape of modern action cinema.
