On May 16, “Final Destination: Blood Ties” premiered, the new installment of the iconic horror saga that maintains the premise that Death is the protagonists’ adversary. Unlike many late sequels, this film has managed to preserve the essence that fans longed for, offering creative and impossible-to-execute deaths. However, this installment features an additional emotional element: the return of Tony Todd as William Bludworth, the iconic coroner of the series.
An actor with a long career
Todd’s participation in Blood Ties is particularly significant, as it is his last role before his passing. The actor, who became a reference in horror cinema, was diagnosed with terminal cancer, which motivated the production team to pay him a special tribute. Craig Perry, the film’s producer, revealed that considering his health condition, they knew this would be his farewell on the big screen. “It was evident that this would be his last role in a movie, and the fact that it was one from Final Destination made it even more moving,” Perry expressed in an interview.
Before his death, Todd left a message that will resonate among his colleagues and fans: “Life is precious, enjoy every second, you never know when. Good luck!”. Unfortunately, the actor passed away on November 6, 2024, at the age of 69, in his home in Marina del Rey, California. Throughout his career, Todd participated in more than 100 films and series, highlighting titles such as Platoon, Candyman, and The Crow, as well as in acclaimed series like Boston Public, The X-Files, and Smallville. His legacy will endure in the memory of cinema and entertainment.
