The initiative aims to tackle electronic waste by extending the lifecycle of equipment and devices through cost-effective and environmentally friendly options.

Denmark, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom will be some of the first countries to have this new option, but the Hong Kong giant has referred to a future global implementation.

Lenovo enters the refurbished market

Lenovo cites its own study, according to which 62% of chief information officers consider it difficult for their organization to achieve sustainability goals.

By offering refurbished devices, Lenovo will not only provide companies with a more cost-effective way to acquire hardware, but will also help them achieve their sustainability goals, aligning with the circular economy to reduce electronic waste.

The devices for sale through the company’s new refurbishment store will undergo a thorough data cleaning, which suggests that key components such as storage and memory will be thoroughly cleaned instead of being replaced.

Among other guarantees, Lenovo will sell its refurbished devices with a minimum of three years warranty, the same years as a new device. Let’s see if this initiative works, which seems like a very logical step in a time of unjustified waste.

Lenovo presents its transparent screen at the Mobile World Congress 2024

Lenovo, the well-known Chinese brand specialized in the development of laptops and other electronic devices, has been one of the brands that has attracted the most attention on the first day of the Mobile World Congress 2024 held in Barcelona. The reason: a laptop with a completely transparent screen, a type of display that is still very unexplored today.

This is a concept that Lenovo wanted to present at MWC to also attract attention to many other products that it has showcased at one of the most anticipated technology fairs in the world every year. With this, the company has managed to become one of the topics of the day around an event where mobile phones are usually the protagonists.

A transparent screen device

As seen at the MWC 2024, and as Lenovo has shown in its press release, the Chinese brand has wanted to attract attention to its range of devices by showcasing its concept of a laptop with a transparent screen, a very striking design that allows elements to be displayed on the screen while still seeing what is behind it.

In addition, thanks to its bezel-less design, it makes the immersion of the transparent screen even more impressive, as it is 17.3 inches of screen completely visible through and with functionalities to offer visual resources on it.

Innovation Times at Lenovo

Another example that Lenovo is looking for innovative approaches in its market is also in the gaming market, where in 2023 it revealed the Lenovo Legion Go, a console based on PC system that, like others in the sector such as the Steam Deck or the ASUS Rog Ally, designed a device specifically focused on allowing users to play PC video games on a portable device with manageable dimensions.

In fact, this market is quite innovative considering that the pioneer, the Steam Deck, did not come out until early 2022, and with Lenovo’s entry into this segment in the last months of 2023, the brand has been one of the first companies to enter the fray. Even companies like Qualcomm have already started releasing a specific chipset to take advantage of the possibilities offered by this type of device.
