The recent movie Deadpool and Wolverine has achieved an impressive box office gross of $1.338 billion, becoming the second highest-grossing film of 2024. Director Shawn Levy along with Reynolds, who has brought Wade Wilson to life multiple times, considered the radical idea of eliminating the character in this story. However, Disney opposed this plot twist. In Scott Mendelsohn’s podcast, Reynolds shared: There’s always the idea of killing Deadpool. Despite this proposal, the film managed to maintain the irreverent essence of the character that has become a fan favorite.
Reynolds, who debuted as Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009, has managed to bring to life a character that reflects what many think without facing the consequences, which makes him particularly valuable. The franchise has achieved good box office results over the years, starting with Deadpool (2016), which grossed $782.8 million, and its sequel Deadpool 2 (2018), which was also a success, although with less enthusiasm.
However, neither Deadpool nor Wolverine have been confirmed as part of the upcoming major MCU event, Avengers: Doomsday. However, other X-Men characters have been announced, including Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier and Channing Tatum as Gambit. Marvel Studios has managed to keep the rest of the cast a secret, which creates anticipation among fans.
This summer, the UCM will begin its Phase 6 with the premiere of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, scheduled for July 25, which promises more surprises for fans of the superhero universe.
