The first installment, titled Made in Abyss: Mezameru Shinpi, will premiere in Japan on October 23, 2026, as announced at the Anime Japan 2026 festival. This event has been a crucial platform for revealing fundamental details about upcoming animation projects.

Made In Abyss will conclude in the near future

Since the conclusion of the second season in 2022, the Made in Abyss anime has been on a prolonged hiatus, with no new episodes providing fresh content to fans. Likewise, the manga, created by Akihito Tsukushi, has maintained an irregular publication schedule, which has exacerbated the impatience of its fanbase.

The decision to conclude the series through a trilogy of films resembles strategies used in other successful franchises, such as Guardians of the Night.

In addition to the release date, Anime Japan has provided new details about the production team, including the studio Kinema Citrus, known for its work on The Rising of the Shield Hero. Furthermore, the voice actors involved have been introduced and the first promotional poster for the movie has been revealed, generating even more anticipation among fans.

The acclaimed dark fantasy manga, Made in Abyss, created by Akihito Tsukushi, has confirmed that it will have a new film adaptation in the form of a saga of movies, six years after the release of its first film in 2020. The first installment of this new series is titled Made in Abyss. Awakening Myster and is scheduled to be released in 2026. The news was announced through the official X (formerly Twitter) account of the project.

An Abyss of Consequences

The new movie will serve as a direct sequel to the series Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun, which aired in 2022. The studio Kinema Citrus, which has worked on previous seasons of the anime, will once again handle the production, with Masayuki Kojima directing and Hideyuki Kurata in charge of the script. The character designs will be handled by the renowned Kazuchika Kise and Yuka Kuroda, ensuring that the series’ distinctive visual style remains intact.

In the first visual glimpse that has been shared, two new characters have been revealed: Tepaste and Clavali, who will appear in the Nagarakutei bar, a favorite spot for abyss explorers. The plot will continue to follow Riko and Reg in their dangerous exploration of the vast abyss, a world full of extraordinary creatures and mysterious relics that humanity cannot reproduce.

Although the possible adaptation to a live-action movie announced in June 2021, directed by Kevin McMullin, had generated a lot of expectations, details and updates about this project have been scarce since then. For now, fans of Made in Abyss can look forward to this new animated saga that will delve even deeper into the rich mythology and universe of the manga and anime.
