Ravernsburger has released the twelfth expansion of Lorcana, named Wilds Unknown. This expansion has a particular feature that will delight Disney fans who may have noticed a notable absence in the game until now, which is addressed in this particular collection: the inclusion of Pixar characters.
Each expansion focuses on one or more Disney movies, and this time the chosen ones are three beloved classics by both children and adults: Toy Story, Brave, and The Incredibles. This time, players, along with the toys, superheroes, and Merida and her family, will have to explore the uncharted regions of the kingdom of Lorcana to uncover ancient secrets that have yet to be discovered. And that could hide much more than it seems.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters and to Lorcana
The reason for including Pixar movies for the first time after almost three years in the market does not seem coincidental. Not when Toy Story 5 will premiere on June 17 in theaters. Therefore, this is a move that Disney hopes will also promote both the movie and the game in a brilliant cross-marketing strategy.
In fact, it is something that the company itself has wanted to emphasize as its intention. Elaine Chase, head of the card games category at Ravensburger, stated that “we all have fond memories of growing up with Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the rest of the toys (…), now fans can have fun collecting those cards and creating decks to play with their families and friends”. Making it clear that it is an intentional move by the company.
Similarly, the expansion includes everything one would expect from a Lorcana collection. Composed of 200 cards and with various types of products, they have included starter sets for those who want to start playing with the two most attractive characters from the collection: Buzz Lightyear and Mrs. Incredible. Something that, combined with a new visual style, the Lore Nouveau (inspired by art nouveau), provides many reasons to dive into Lorcana.
Wilds Unknown was released on May 15, but it is expected to continue having a strong impact on card games in the weeks and months to come. Especially now, with the shadow of Toy Story 5 already around the corner.
