Ravernsburger has released the twelfth expansion of Lorcana, named Wilds Unknown. This expansion has a particular feature that will delight Disney fans who may have noticed a notable absence in the game until now, which is addressed in this particular collection: the inclusion of Pixar characters.
Each expansion focuses on one or more Disney movies, and this time the chosen ones are three beloved classics by both children and adults: Toy Story, Brave, and The Incredibles. This time, players, along with the toys, superheroes, and Merida and her family, will have to explore the uncharted regions of the kingdom of Lorcana to uncover ancient secrets that have yet to be discovered. And that could hide much more than it seems.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters and to Lorcana
The reason for including Pixar movies for the first time after almost three years in the market does not seem coincidental. Not when Toy Story 5 will premiere on June 17 in theaters. Therefore, this is a move that Disney hopes will also promote both the movie and the game in a brilliant cross-marketing strategy.
In fact, it is something that the company itself has wanted to emphasize as its intention. Elaine Chase, head of the card games category at Ravensburger, stated that “we all have fond memories of growing up with Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the rest of the toys (…), now fans can have fun collecting those cards and creating decks to play with their families and friends”. Making it clear that it is an intentional move by the company.
Similarly, the expansion includes everything one would expect from a Lorcana collection. Composed of 200 cards and with various types of products, they have included starter sets for those who want to start playing with the two most attractive characters from the collection: Buzz Lightyear and Mrs. Incredible. Something that, combined with a new visual style, the Lore Nouveau (inspired by art nouveau), provides many reasons to dive into Lorcana.
Wilds Unknown was released on May 15, but it is expected to continue having a strong impact on card games in the weeks and months to come. Especially now, with the shadow of Toy Story 5 already around the corner.

The world of collectible card games continues to expand, and Lorcana, the title set in the Disney universe that was launched with great anticipation last year, has taken another step towards dominating this market with the release of its new collection, Whispers in the Well. This new set of cards, which will arrive at specialty stores on November 7 and to others on November 14, promises to offer players a fresh experience, with a deeper narrative focus and mechanics that provide a new level of strategy to the already popular game.
A collection that will delight fans
Lorcana, created by Ravensburger in collaboration with some of the industry’s most prominent designers, quickly became one of the most talked-about titles of last year. With its vibrant illustrations inspired by the Disney universe and an accessible yet challenging gameplay system, the game captivated both novice players and veterans of collectible card games. Now, Whispers in the Well takes that magic to the next level, expanding the game’s lore and delving into the stories of known characters and creatures as well as others yet to be discovered.
The central theme of Whispers in the Well revolves around a mysterious source of power called The Well, whose waters possess magical abilities that can alter reality itself. In this collection, players will be able to delve into the secrets of the Well, facing villains and heroes who seek to unravel its enigmas. With new character cards, artifacts, and spells, the collection is designed to create interesting synergies between the cards and offer new strategic opportunities on the game board.
One of the main novelties that Lorcana fans will be able to enjoy is the introduction of “secret” cards that can only be unlocked through specific mechanics during the game, adding an element of surprise and hidden strategy. Additionally, Whispers in the Well expands the interaction with Curse cards, allowing players to manipulate the flow of the game and create unpredictable situations that will challenge even the most experienced players.
The launch of this collection has generated a wave of excitement on social media among the most ardent fans of Lorcana. And with the addition of Gargoyles, Taron, and the magic cauldron and glimmers from Disney series like Darkwing Duck and Lilo and Stitch, fans can expect the game to continue expanding its rich world of magic and adventure that has captured the imagination of many.
Disney has very iconic characters, but if there is one thing it stands out for, it is its villains. They have always had more charisma and have been more memorable, not without good reasons. Partly it is the appeal of evil, partly it is that they often have more depth than the protagonists themselves. This is something that Lorcana has understood well, making several of its collections revolve around great Disney villains. And the new collection is no exception, revolving around perhaps Disney’s greatest villain: the vizier Jafar. Villain of Aladdin, released in 1992 and being one of the […]

Partly it is the appeal of evil, and partly it is that they often have more depth than the protagonists themselves. This is something that Lorcana has understood well, making several of its collections revolve around great Disney villains. And the new collection is no exception, revolving around perhaps Disney’s greatest villain: the vizier Jafar.
Villain from Aladdin, released in 1992 and being one of the most successful movies in Disney history —although it would soon be surpassed by The Lion King—, Jafar is remembered for his wickedness, but also for being a tremendously humorous character. Although he doesn’t seem likely to make the players of Lorcana laugh much.

A story that justifies the mechanics of the collection
After crossing the Azure Sea and overcoming the obstacles of Archazia Island, players will find that Jafar has not been idle. The vizier is seeking to reconstruct the Crown of Hexwell to crown himself as the master of the entire kingdom, which would grant him virtually unlimited power. And the entire collection revolves around that. Jafar and his allies are searching for the pieces of the crown, while the Illuminators and their companions are trying to thwart his plans.
In addition to the characters from Aladdin, characters from other franchises make an appearance. Among them, Mulan and her companions stand out, as they have a particular presence in this collection, reinforcing the unique oriental flavor that this new installment of the adventures in Lorcana has.
Regarding the mechanics, it is a collection of the most interesting. On one hand, it marks the return of two-colored cards. Cards that in the past have proven to be tremendously powerful and that shape the dynamics of entire decks by themselves. On the other hand, a common dynamic among the cards in this collection is to help each other, making it so that when a character enters the battlefield, it provides some kind of benefit to another character that is already in play. This makes strategizing when to play the cards and in what order more important than ever.
Although undoubtedly the most interesting part comes from the cards associated with Aladdin and Jaffar. With the Fade mechanic, you can summon very powerful cards at a much lower cost than usual, but with a disadvantage. They are mere illusions. So if an opponent chooses to interact with them, they will vanish instantly, as they are nothing more than mere fantasies. Therefore, you must be very careful about how and when you play them.
Products for all kinds of players
If you want to play Reign of Jafar, you will be able to do so starting May 30 in pre-launch and June 6 in all stores. And as in previous occasions, it will be released with all kinds of sealed content. This includes boxes, booster packs, single-player decks, and the Illumineer’s Trove bundle. In addition to a new product that we have saved for last.
Palace Heist is a scenario deck that offers us a very simple adventure: to prevent Jafar from rising to power. For that, it provides us with everything we need to play in a non-competitive scenario variant of the game. Designed to offer a self-contained experience that also serves to learn how to play the game, it is excellent for those who want to delve into Lorcana or this collection and do not necessarily want to play against other players. Making it the perfect product for that kind of players.
In this way, Lorcana continues to stand out and demonstrate that its success is not only due to having the Disney brand behind it. They know how to choose their characters, but also how to build interesting mechanics and products that people want to play. And that’s why they have tremendous success that seems never-ending. Something that should only be celebrated by preventing Jafar from ensuring that there are never more Lorcana collections.
Part of the interest in each new Lorcana collection is that new franchises will be introduced into the game. And this time there are three, all with an obvious connection. Among those announced were Bolt and Lady and the Tramp, giving us the dog part we promised from the title. But where do the cats come from? The third announced franchise is The Aristocats, who will make their way into this franchise with style, jazz, and seductive walks like only they know how to do. All of this is set within the story of Lorcana, which continues its course. After […]
Part of the interest in each new Lorcana collection is that new franchises will be introduced into the game.
All of this is part of the story of Lorcana, which continues its course. After the illuminators and the glimmers set sail in the previous collection to learn how to repair the Great Illuminator, they arrive at a mysterious island. Welcomed by an enigmatic illuminator named Archazia, they will discover in this place new powers and, moreover, all the possibilities to do so, thanks to the fact that the island is prepared to train the illuminators in practices. This is very convenient, considering where the weight of this new collection lies: its new mechanics.
New mechanics that promise to revolutionize the game
The most important new mechanic is a playable one: double ink. Double ink cards will have two types of ink at the same time, which will make them more powerful and create particular synergies between those inks, with a limitation. They can only be used in decks with the two colors of inks to which they belong. This will make this type of card more suitable for building decks around them than for cards that are considered to be introduced into already pre-built decks.
Another new mechanic is not playable, even if it is on the cards. Because the Legend Cards are 20 cards that, on the back, include a fragment of a story. Only by putting them all together, like a puzzle, is it possible to read the complete story, while on the front there are two particularly striking illustrations.
Although each envelope of Archazia’s Island will include a Legend Card, this will not affect the number of playable cards included in the booster packs. Something that makes these cards a perfect example of how to evolve your collectible card game: adding more things to collect without compromising its competitive side. Simply, taking advantage of one of the facets, in this case, its art and its narrative.
Archazia’s Island is coming out with booster packs, illumineer’s trove, and two single-player decks, in this case, amethyst/steel of Jafar and Iago and ruby/sapphire of Belle and Beast. And also, it’s happening very soon. Because this collection will be available on March 7 in specialty stores, as well as select stores at Walt Disney World® Resort, Disneyland® Resort, and Disneyland Paris, while you’ll have to wait until March 21 for wholesale and online stores. So, what are you waiting for to become a jazz cat?
Lorcana is a game that has managed to capture the public’s imagination. In a market as difficult as the collectible card games, Disney has found the right key. It also had it easier than others. It already had the characters. The franchises. It just needed to find the approach and the mechanics. Although it’s not like that isn’t extremely difficult in itself. And it seems to have succeeded, as demonstrated by its new collection, Azurite Sea, focusing on a very prosaic aspect: ensuring that the game is as balanced as possible. A whole new […]
Lorcana is a game that has managed to capture the public’s imagination. In a market as difficult as collectible card games, Disney has found the key. This one was somewhat easier than the others: it already had the characters and the franchises. It just needed to find the approach and mechanics, which could still be difficult, but it seems to have succeeded. This is demonstrated by its new collection, Azurite Sea, focusing on an interesting new aspect: ensuring the game is as balanced as possible.
A whole new sea of possibilities to discover
Azurite Sea is the sixth collection of Lorcana, and focuses on the pirates and inventors who sail the great Azurite Sea. For what purpose? To repair the mysterious Great Illuminator. This time, we will prominently feature characters from Big Hero 6, Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, and as a special guest, the always adorable Stitch, this time, with an especially pirate-like spirit.
Regarding the game and its mechanics, Azurite Sea introduces elements that have been somewhat neglected in the game until now. Placing a strong emphasis on the interaction between one’s own cards, slowing down the game, and manipulating the game board, this expansion seeks to reduce the speed and aggressiveness of the Lorcana meta. The intention is to make it possible to play in a more leisurely, strategic manner. This makes the collection perhaps less interesting in terms of new mechanics and rules, but it does so in exchange for placing the game in a healthier state.
This is contributed by the new decks published in the collection. They are based on finding specific pieces that we need to start running a well-oiled machine with very specific objectives. This introduces more combinations, which many players will appreciate.
The Ruby-Amber deck is a deck of pirates and locations, and everything revolves around them. Our goal is to acquire many pirates in order to have a critical mass of them that synergize with each other. These makes be very difficult for our opponents to defend against, and allows us to gain bonuses. There are also other pirates in play, making this a deck that is very difficult to deal with.
Alone you can’t, with friends you can
The Emerald-Sapphire deck, on the other hand, is an Inventors deck with Item synergy. It is more thematic than mechanical, and seeks to win by the sheer saturation of inventors it puts on the playing field. The main thing this expansion brings to Lorcana: the importance of support between card, and how a secondary win is now a viable way to win overall games.
Furthermore, it is worth noting how this is a collection with a particularly impressive artistic design. While Lorcana has always stood out for having a beautiful artistic design, in the case of Azurite Sea we can only take our hats off. The work they have done to characterize the characters, put them in context, and make them stand out in a particular way is absolutely impressive. Giving it a particular beauty and intensity, which makes it stand out among all the other collections published so far, perhaps with the exception of Ursula’s Return.
Azurite Sea is now available in specialty stores, as well as in selected stores at Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort, and Disneyland Paris. And it will be available in mass-market stores on November 25th.
Presentamos una de las nuevas cartas de Shimmering Skies, la nueva colección de Lorcana, que es todo un rey del canto y la canción.
Disney Lorcana doesn’t stop. With a new collection on the horizon, Shimmering Skies, we are all waiting to see what this collection from the world of Wreck-It Ralph will bring us. That’s right, Wreck-It Ralph will be joining characters from other Disney worlds like Maleficent, Scar, Elsa, Peter Pan or Mulan. And if you don’t want to wait, neither do we. That’s why we are giving you an exclusive peak at one of the new cards from the collection.
Alan – A – Dale, Rockin’ Rooster arrives in Disney Lorcana with beautiful new artwork to join the ranks of the Storyboard. This troubadour was in charge of telling the stories of Robin Hood in the classic Disney movie, and now he will help you win your games. How? Well, being an Amber-colored card, every time you play a song, you will earn a lore point. With a cost of 4 magical inks, Alan – A – Dale is a 2/2 inkable that will strengthen your singing power and effortlessly finish off your opponents with its two lore points.
If you like the look of Alan – A – Dale, Rockin´ Rooster, you will soon be able to acquire his services. Shimmering Skies will be released in select hobby stores and Disney parks on August 9th, and will be available in select toy stores and the Disney Store starting on August 23rd. So start tuning your instruments, because this rooster is ready to sing.
Lorcana has its new collection, Ursula’s Return, which adds new layers to the game, as well as introducing a new multiplayer game mode.
When Lorcana was announced, no one expected it to succeed the way it has. A Disney card game doesn’t sound like something that would have a place in such a saturated market like the TCG (trading card game) market, but the reality is different. People love Disney characters, and there is a niche to be filled among an audience more interested in a family collectible game than a purely competitive one, like most other games. This has undoubtedly led to its success, making a place for itself among the giants of its genre.
Now comes a new Lorcana collection called Ursula’s Return. As the name suggests, Ursula, the evil sea witch queen from The Little Mermaid, has returned and wants to take over Lorcana. Only the players can stop her, making it their mission to unite heroes and villains to thwart her plans.

Since the protagonist is a villain, that means there have to be heroes. That’s why the types of cards gain prominence. Now we are going to see more types of allies, with princes, princesses, kings, queens, mentors, and mentresses having a special importance. This translates into new abilities that activate with each other, thanks to the synergies that exist between the different types of characters. Therefore, in this collection, it will be more important than ever to consider the class of our allies.
Another major change is that, for the first time, there will be cards from one of Disney’s most beloved contemporary films. Because now the Madrigal family will join the game, with Encanto cards being a very important part of the collection. There will be a special emphasis on the Enchanted cards.
In fact, Ursula’s Return will come with two starter decks for those who want to get into the game. That’s why one of them will be entirely dedicated to the Madrigal family. Priced at €19.99, it’s an Amethyst and Amber deck. With a slower and more methodical approach, with this deck you’ll want to work with the synergies that exist within the family, ensuring that everyone works together to achieve their goals. Something we know is not always easy with the Madrigals.
But as we said, there are two starter decks. The second one is a Sapphire and Steel deck, where the protagonist is Anna from the movie Frozen, aided by Hercules. A deck based on brute force, trying to accelerate the game as much as possible in its favor, and managing to gain an advantage over the opponent in this way. Also costing €19.99, the deck includes a life counter, damage counters, the rules of the game, a small playmat, two foil cards, and an extra booster pack. Something that makes these decks the perfect way to get into the game.
However, you may be more into board games. And Ursula’s Return offers you exactly that. Illumineer’s Quest Deep Trouble contains three decks, two for players and one for Úrsula, where two players will have to face Úrsula to prevent her from taking over Lorcana. Customizable, the intention is for it to be infinitely replayable, as well as allowing up to four players to play. It’s a good place to start if you want to play in multiplayer mode.
All this enhances the game’s more family-oriented approach. By facilitating casual and multiplayer gameplay, Lorcana is the perfect game for those who want to get into card games and don’t know how, as well as for all Disney lovers and their characters. However, thanks to its depth, it also has a very interesting competitive edge.

The new collection is already available in specialized stores since May 17th, while it will arrive on May 31st to general stores. With starter decks, booster packs, boxes, and its own board game, Ursula’s Return is the perfect place to get into Lorcana if you haven’t done so already. Lorcana, the collectible card game from Ravensburger set in the Disney universe, is a success worldwide, including our country.
Collectible card games are having an unexpected second life. Although most of those that have survived today were born in the 90s, in the last ten years it has become a niche market. Something much more specific than it was at the time. Its loss of popularity meant the death of many TCGs, but also that the market was divided, broadly speaking, among the three survivors: Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh, and Pokémon.
Now collectible card games seem to be making a strong comeback. Perhaps it’s because of the rise of board games, perhaps it’s because of the success of card video games. Probably a combination of both. The reality is that in recent years, the three classic games have achieved unprecedented success since their early years. That, and the fact that, as a result of this popularity, other collectible card games have emerged that have managed to succeed where it seemed that everything had already been done.
A free program for Android, by Ravensburger Verlag GmbH.
One of the latest examples of this is Lorcana. A Ravensburger game, set in the Disney universe, which was released in the US in August 2023, and arrived in early 2024 in different European countries. Being one of the latest Spain, where it arrived at the end of last March, after generating great anticipation.
Much of the charm of Lorcana is, logically, the license behind it. It’s Disney. And be careful, not only the classic Disney, from the movies of our childhood, but also the more modern Disney. Among its ranks we can find characters like Mickey, Donald and Pluto, but also Peter Pan, the 101 Dalmatians, Lilo and Stitch, Elsa or Wreck-It Ralph. All this with promotional cards, alternative arts, and everything you can expect from a collectible card game, where it is as important to have a good deck as it is to carry it as personalized as possible.
In the game, we will explore the kingdom of Lorcana with a team of glimmers, our cards, to be the first to reach 20 legend points. These points are accumulated by playing cards, similar to how it is done in Magic: The Gathering. Where in Magic we have to tap our cards to attack our opponent, here we have to tap them to generate legend points. But be careful, because there’s a catch: our opponent can attack our tapped cards with their untapped cards. So knowing when to go on the offensive and when to stay on the defensive will be key to winning.
Also, like in Magic, each card is divided into different colors. In this case, they are called inks, and there are six: amber, amethyst, emerald, ruby, sapphire, and steel. How this is managed is similar, again, to Magic: The Gathering, but with a clear difference. All our cards can be played face down to generate an ink of their color. In this way, all the cards serve the purpose of allowing us to play the other cards, while avoiding the uncomfortable situation of not being able to play cards that often occurs in the Wizards of the Coast game.
In the game right now there are character cards, which generate legend points, as well as actions, objects and places, which serve as spells, equipment and enchantments respectively. All of this makes it a game that has a very pronounced casual component, being very easy to play in a relaxed manner with other people, but with enough depth to also have a competitive edge. This has been enhanced with a professional circuit that is slowly expanding by Ranvesburguer.
If you are interested in starting to play Lorcana, the easiest way to do it is with one of the starter decks. With everything you need to play, there are 7 starter decks available and they all contain a 60-card deck, 11 damage counters, 1 paper playmat, 1 cardboard score token, 1 quick start guide, and a booster pack with 12 random cards.
A free program for Android, by Ravensburger Verlag GmbH.
The game currently has three expansions available, with the latest being Into The Inklands. Available in specialized stores and large retailers, it has two starter decks, one Amber and Emerald focused on 101 Dalmatians and Peter Pan, and one Ruby and Sapphire where the central pieces are Moana and Uncle Scrooge. In addition, there are also booster packs, packs, sleeves, deck boxes, and everything you may need, all personalized with the beautiful art of Lorcana.
Although Lorcana has been with us for a short time, we already know the name of the next collection: The Return of Úrsula. That’s why, seeing that the game is working and doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon, there is no better time than now to get into a new collectible card game like Lorcana.
