Hideo Kojima, known for his work on the iconic Metal Gear Solid saga, continues to make headlines in the video game industry. His next big project, the sequel to Death Stranding, titled On the Beach, will be released exclusively for PlayStation 5 on June 26, 2024. This release aims to replicate the success of the first title and set new expectations for players.
In addition to Death Stranding 2, Kojima Productions is working on two projects: OD, a horror game developed in collaboration with Xbox, and Phsynt, a spy game that recalls the essence of Metal Gear Solid, which is expected to arrive on PlayStation consoles in 5 or 6 years. However, there is still a lack of detailed information about both titles, leading to speculation about their development.
The dream of his childhood: to direct a movie
At over 60 years old, Kojima has expressed his desire to pivot his career by directing his own movie. In a recent interview with GQ Magazine, he mentioned that he can’t imagine working in video games at 90 years old. “I want to fulfill my dream of being a film director after Phsynt,” he stated. Although he plans to step away from game design for a while, his intention is to return to Kojima Productions after making his film to continue creating video games.
On the other hand, it has been confirmed that Kojima is involved in the production of a movie based on the Death Stranding universe, which is set to premiere in 2027. Additionally, an anime of Death Stranding is in development, and new details are expected to be revealed in the near future. Kojima’s versatility across different media highlights his profound influence on modern entertainment and his tireless pursuit of innovation.
