In the world of Rust, known for its clever building mechanics aimed at preventing theft, a more sinister variant emerges: the creation of trap bases. ZChum, a prominent streamer, has taken this idea to a new level with his innovative Blood Club, a multi-level venue designed to lure players into what appears to be a lively party, but hides a lethal plan. Through meticulous planning and collaboration with other streamers, ZChum dedicated nine days to gather materials and design this base, demonstrating remarkable commitment and creativity.

Bases to ensure that if they want to rob you, they will regret it

The Blood Club is not only built to dazzle, but it also features a laser light system synchronized with live music from artists like BBNO$ and MrWobbles, creating a unique atmosphere for players before the trap falls. “I wanted an area visible from the road, clearly a club, and multi-level, because the idea was to have a large dance floor, where the ground could fall beneath the feet of the attendees”, ZChum explained regarding his vision.

The moments of tension and surprise are an essential part of the experience of these trap places. At the climax of the party, the ground explodes thanks to explosives, and those fortunate enough to survive the fall are not safe, as the hidden turrets quickly activate, eliminating the survivors. This type of trap creates an atmosphere that is both exciting and dangerous, which is characteristic of Rust.

The creation of the Blood Club has been regarded as one of the most impressive creations within the game, not only for its design but also for its ability to manage energy and lighting systems. With stories like these, Rust continues to captivate players and offer experiences that go beyond mere survival.

Discord knows no rest and begins to distribute a new trojan through direct messages

Cybersecurity researchers have reported on a new Rust-based Trojan called ChaosBot, initially detected in September 2025 in a financial services environment. This malware allows operators to execute remote commands on compromised systems and has been observed interacting through Discord profiles. Users associated with this activity are ‘chaos_00019’ and ‘lovebb0024’.

Never open files from unknown profiles or suspicious messages

ChaosBot is predominantly distributed through phishing messages that include a malicious Windows shortcut. When a user opens the file, a PowerShell command is executed that downloads the malware. This disguises itself as a malicious DLL file and seeks to establish a persistent access tunnel to the compromised network through a reverse proxy. During its operation, the malware can receive additional instructions through the Discord channel set up by the attackers, enhancing its command and control capabilities.

In addition, a variant of ransomware associated with Chaos has been identified that is distinguished by deleting files instead of encrypting them. This variant also employs techniques to manipulate the clipboard, with the aim of redirecting cryptocurrency transfers, thereby increasing its danger and complexity. This dual approach of destructive extortion and financial theft reflects a shift towards more aggressive and multifaceted tactics by malicious actors.

ChaosBot has proven to be difficult to detect, using techniques to evade tracking on Windows systems, such as modifying functions and checking MAC addresses associated with virtual machines. Analysts warn that this malware not only poses a direct threat to the security of systems but also to the finances of users, affecting cryptocurrency platforms.

8,424 cryptocurrency wallets are stolen due to a cybersecurity issue

Cybersecurity researchers have discovered two malicious crates in Rust that impersonate a legitimate library called fast_log, in order to steal Solana and Ethereum wallet keys from the source code. The crates, named faster_log and async_println, were published by a threat actor under the pseudonyms rustguruman and dumbnbased on May 25, 2025, achieving a total of 8,424 downloads, according to the software supply chain security company, Socket.

Make sure you know what you are downloading

These fraudulent crates include functional registration code as a cover and contain routines that scan source files for private keys of Solana and Ethereum. Once identified, they exfiltrate the matches through an HTTP POST request to a hardcoded command and control (C2) endpoint, according to security researcher Kirill Boychenko.

Following the responsible disclosure of the finding, the maintainers of crates.io have taken steps to remove the Rust packages and disable the two involved accounts. In addition, they have preserved the records of the users operated by the threat actor along with the malicious crates for further analysis. “The malicious code was executed at runtime, when running or testing a project that depended on them,” commented Walter Pearce from crates.io.

In a typosquatting attack, the actors maintained the original library’s registration functionality while introducing malicious changes during a packaging operation, which recursively searched for Rust files in a directory to find private keys. This attack is a clear reminder of how minimal code and a simple deception can create a significant risk in the supply chain, allowing malicious code to reach developers’ computers and continuous integration systems.

Go Wayback! is the new survival game developed by PlayerUnknown, creator of PUBG, which is inspired by the popular Rust franchise. Currently, players have the opportunity to register to participate in a closed beta that will end on May 14. This title is described as a solo roguelike survival game, where each match offers a unique experience thanks to its procedurally generated maps and dynamic weather.

A closed beta that you can play right now

Players begin their adventure in a cabin and must embark on a journey of several kilometers to a weather tower, constantly managing their body temperature, hunger, and hydration. A key focus of the survival mechanics in Go Wayback! is the simulation of fire, which requires players to gather materials to ignite flames instead of simply selecting a “campfire” option from a crafting menu. This dynamic offers greater creative freedom in the quest to survive in a hostile environment.

Go Wayback! is not just a game in its own right; it also serves as a testing ground for a more ambitious project titled Project Artemis. Greene has described Artemis as a combination of Minecraft mechanics and a “3D internet” that will allow players to create worlds, towns, and cities for others to inhabit. Additionally, a cooperative gameplay mode is planned for the future, although for now, Go Wayback! focuses on the single-player experience.

The game is being developed by Scott Davidson, former art director of Rust, and is expected to be available in early access through Steam and Epic Games Store within two years. With Go Wayback!, PlayerUnknown Productions presents a new vision in the survival genre, maintaining its roots and innovating in what players can expect from this type of experience.

These are gaps in the improvements that will make life easier in Rust

The new Rust update, titled Soft Refresh, introduces a series of significant changes to the game’s softcore mode, making the survival experience a bit more forgiving. But don’t think this will be a walk in the park… This adjustment is part of the constant evolution of the title, which has sought to soften the harsh reality of its mechanics, where losing everything after a match can be a frustrating experience for players.

Players least frustrated with this update

Among the most notable innovations is the ability to repair destroyed objects, allowing players to recover part of their inventory after being eliminated. Previously, a defeat could result in the total loss of accumulated resources; now, players respawn with 50% of their inventory intact, speeding up their return to the game and mitigating frustration from significant losses.

Likewise, the effectiveness of bees has been limited, reducing the amount of honey they produce and adjusting the damage of their stings based on the player’s clothing. This change comes after the introduction of bees in the latest update, where new gathering mechanics were offered. However, it seems that their effectiveness has led to an imbalance that Facepunch seeks to correct.

The development of a new jungle is also in the final stages of construction. This will include new animals and weapons that will enrich the early phase of the game. Among the plans, new creatures such as crocodiles and snakes will be introduced, which promises to add a new layer of challenge to the gaming experience.

Finally, the 25% reduction in bullet damage and the modification in the use of sleeping bags that will allow for a more efficient respawn reflect Facepunch’s commitment to improving gameplay dynamics, making Rust a more accessible experience without losing its essence of fierce survival.
