The Galaxy Unpacked event in January 2024 brought many things. First, the new Galaxy S24 smartphone family, which comes to compete against the iPhone 15 and Pixel 8; and then the artificial intelligence integrated into the devices.

Galaxy AI, which is the name of Samsung’s artificial intelligence, was the star of the show when Samsung unveiled the new Galaxy S24 lineup at Unpacked. The South Korean giant introduced a series of impressive AI-based features, such as Live Translate, Interpreter, Instant Slow-Mo, and many more.

But you wouldn’t think they were all free, right? For now they are free, but over time you will have to pay some money to maintain access to Galaxy AI.

Free AI is not and Samsung warns

The fine print on the official Galaxy S24 page states that Galaxy AI will only be free for users until the end of next year.

“The functions of Galaxy AI will be provided for free until the end of 2025 on compatible Samsung Galaxy devices. Different terms may apply to AI functions provided by third parties,” Samsung states.

In other words, if you buy a Samsung Galaxy S24 phone now, you will get Galaxy AI for free for two years. However, in 2026, be prepared to pay.

The company has not revealed the price of Galaxy AI. We also do not know if Galaxy AI will be offered as a subscription to users. However, it is worth noting that the advantages of the AI that appears on the Google Pixel 8, including Magic Editor, are offered as a subscription for Google One users.

The Galaxy AI service will have to be very good and convince a lot of people to start paying a monthly subscription in 2026 to enjoy AI on their smartphone.

Samsung is making headlines this week since they held their Galaxy Unpacked event, where they present their new products. Besides showcasing their new flagship phones for 2024, they also unveiled an interesting gadget that had been rumored for several months: the Samsung Galaxy Ring.

This device was briefly seen during the conference, although it appeared long enough to arouse the interest of both insiders and outsiders, as well as to show some of the possibilities that this new wearable can offer to users who dare to get this smart ring.

One ring to rule them all

After a long and detailed presentation at the Galaxy Unpacked event talking about Samsung’s new flagship phones, just before the conference ended, when discussing the features of Samsung Health, a brief teaser was shown featuring the Samsung Galaxy Ring as a new smart accessory that will be part of Samsung’s wearable ecosystem.

In fact, on the inner side of the ring, you can appreciate the sensors capable of monitoring vital signs in the same way as smart bracelets and watches do. Therefore, the Samsung Galaxy Ring could be a device capable of performing these functions but in a more discreet way. That, along with other chips like NFC, can make the Galaxy Ring a very popular accessory.

An Exciting Unpacked Event

The Galaxy Unpacked that took place on January 17th revealed this interesting ring, but not much is known about it yet. However, the event was dominated by the new Samsung Galaxy S24, Samsung Galaxy S24+, and Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, the three new smartphones from the South Korean brand that once again aim to dominate the premium Android segment among high-end phones. And, to achieve this, they have also taken important steps compared to their previous version.

For example, although the design lines are somewhat conservative, although the S24 Ultra has abandoned the curvature of its screen, inside they have renewed their chipset to be more powerful than ever: the Exynos 2400 for the S24 and S24+, and the 3rd generation Snapdragon 8 for the S24 Ultra. In addition, with Artificial Intelligence as their flagship, these new phones will have numerous new features that aim to take the user experience to a new level.

A mysterious Samsung Internet application has been removed from the Microsoft Store, with no clue as to why it was there in the first place.

Samsung Internet is a Chromium-based browser, similar to Edge and Google Chrome, and it became famous a few weeks ago due to an unusual listing in the Microsoft Store for a Windows version of the Android browser.

However, MSPoweruser reports that starting today, January 15, 2024, the application is no longer listed or accessible in the Microsoft Store. Samsung and Microsoft have not yet made any official statements about this peculiar situation.

And while it is quite strange to see the name Samsung Internet in the Microsoft Store, there are some possible explanations for what might have happened.

What happened to the Samsung browser?

Since there was no announcement before the app was available in the store, its appearance in November 2023 could have been an unintentional release. For example, MSPoweruser suggests that, since the app was only available in Korean without translation, it could have been launched before it was ready.

It is also possible that it was part of a more specific regional release – hence the option of only Korean – that could have reached outside the specified region.

The exact reason why the application has disappeared is still unclear, although it leans towards our suspicion that it may have been an accidental release. According to Sammobile, who spent some time with the application before it was removed, it lacked several key features that one would expect to find in a regular browser and was notably slow most of the time it was in use.

We will keep you informed if the mysterious application returns to the Microsoft Store soon or if Samsung has something to say about it.

Samsung has arrived at CES 2024 with a lot of advantage, or so it seems after having presented a lot of new products and technologies since the beginning of the year. And today we bring you a very interesting novelty.

As you may know, the major technology fair known as CES 2024 is officially taking place in Las Vegas and, during its First Look event, Samsung has unveiled the world’s first transparent micro LED display.

The South Korean electronics giant has not only revealed the main brightness and screen technology specifications of its QD-OLED S95D and a new range of soundbars that includes the Music Frame (a subwoofer that can be placed around the artwork on your walls), it has also shown three different transparent micro-LED displays.

A truly revolutionary television

Two of the presented units feature a tinted glass panel, making the frameless display easier to detect (while hiding potential distractions behind it), while a third one appears to be as transparent as regular glass, and also has a design devoid of any physical frame.

The technology blog states: “In person, the effect produced by Samsung’s transparent micro OLED screens is difficult to describe, as the content almost appears like a hologram while floating in the air”.

All demonstration units at the CES presentation were standalone, and the screen width, just one centimeter, undoubtedly contributes to the illusion of a floating screen. In addition, thanks to the pixel density of the micro-LED, the images appeared “incredibly sharp”.

For now, Samsung has only uploaded a video of the transparent micro-LEDs they have presented, but it’s better than nothing.

Samsung also claims that these transparent micro-LED displays are less affected by ambient light, as they have higher brightness compared to transparent OLED panels (take that, LG and the big push that has been given to transparent OLEDs).

We still don’t know the price, but considering that Samsung’s inaugural 89-inch micro-LED costs the same as a small house, we would bet that we have a long wait ahead before the technology becomes affordable enough for most of us to have a television with these features.

A new chapter with Galaxy Unpacked 2024

Robots in an entire production line: the future is 2030

The ultimate goal of Samsung is to have fully automated semiconductor production facilities by 2030. To achieve this, it will be necessary to develop systems capable of managing large amounts of data and automatically optimizing equipment performance.

The Smart Sensing System is an important part of this plan and is expected to play a crucial role in making these smart and fully automated factories a reality.

Samsung is currently investing tens of millions of won in projects such as smart sensors, with the hope that their investments will pay off in the long term.

The intelligent sensors currently being developed are designed to measure the uniformity of the plasma on the wafers. This is crucial, as the results of processes such as etching, deposition, and cleaning in semiconductor manufacturing depend heavily on plasma uniformity, so it is essential to accurately measure and manage this aspect.

The development of this system has been a team effort involving partners and academic institutions. An important feature of these new sensors is their tiny size: they fit in existing factories and will not require additional space.

It is worth noting that the sensors have been designed and manufactured in South Korea. Traditionally, South Korean chip manufacturers like Samsung have heavily relied on foreign tools for these advanced processes.

Developing their own intelligent sensor systems represents a significant change, as it reduces to some extent this dependence, although most of the tools used by Samsung are still manufactured outside the country.

Samsung has finally released a new version of its Jet Bot robot vacuum cleaner, which was last updated in 2021 and represents the most advanced model of autonomous cleaning by the Korean company.

The Bespoke Jet Bot Combo will be presented at CES 2024 and it is the first combination of robot vacuum cleaner and mop from the Korean electronics giant.

The only downside is that Samsung has not announced the price (the previous model, the Jet Bot AI Plus, costs $1,300) or the release date. And it seems that the robot’s features are not yet finalized (Samsung’s press release states that the robot is “currently under development”).

But we can get an idea of what the new Samsung robot vacuum cleaner will offer, according to the South Korean company itself.

A fully differential vacuum robot

The Bespoke Jet Bot Combo is a round-shaped robot vacuum and mop with a self-emptying and self-cleaning charging base called Clean Station. This base empties the robot’s bin and refills its water tank, while also washing and drying its two rotating mops.

The cleaning station provides a complete 3-step cleaning system for mops, which includes automatic washing, steam cleaning, and automatic drying with hot air. After washing the mops with hot water heated by steam at high temperature, it sprays them with steam to prevent odors, allowing for more hygienic maintenance.

This steam cleaning function is unique among robot vacuum cleaners, and Samsung claims that it can also be applied to mops when the robot finds dry stains on hard floors.

According to the press release, when the vacuum cleaner detects a stain, it returns to the cleaning station, heats the mops with high temperature steam and water, and then cleans the dirt with its rotating mops at 170 rpm.

Like most high-end robot vacuums, the Bespoke Jet Bot Combo uses artificial intelligence to navigate around the house. First introduced in the Jet Bot AI Plus, Samsung’s artificial intelligence technology allows the robot to avoid obstacles, which means it can recognize common household objects and avoid them when necessary.

The Combo has improved object recognition and, according to Samsung, it can recognize more household objects than its predecessor, as well as different spaces in the house and stains on the floor. A new 3D sensor allows for “more precise driving”.

The robot’s intelligence also extends to the types of floors. A function called AI Floor Detect allows it to distinguish between hard floors and carpets, and it can determine whether to lift the mop pads to go over the carpets or return to the base and remove them before vacuuming the rugs.

Samsung has not provided any detailed specifications of the robot vacuum cleaner, such as autonomy, battery size, roller brush type, dust bin and water tank capacity, or whether this vacuum cleaner has an onboard camera like the Jet Bot AI Plus.
