The developer semiwork is preparing a new update for the popular cooperative horror game REPO, which will respond to one of the most persistent requests from fans: the inclusion of cosmetics in the game. In a recent video, semiwork announced that this new offering will be characterized by not including microtransactions, marking a renewed approach to gameplay experience and community feedback.

Customization is something that has always been a topic of discussion

“For this upcoming update, we are going to add cosmetics to REPO,” the developers explained, while emphasizing their desire for this new system to be fun and aligned with the game’s narrative. The inclusion of cosmetic items, although accessible at no additional cost, could raise certain dilemmas about the intention behind this decision: is the studio prioritizing player enjoyment or the possibility of monetization?

“We don’t just want to have a simple menu where things are bought with some in-game currency,” they stated, “we want the search for cosmetics to be exciting and a natural part of the gaming experience.” In this way, the update aims to turn the collection of these items into an immersive experience rather than a simple economic transaction.

In addition to the new cosmetics, REPO will include a configuration option for players with arachnophobia, in response to community concerns, as well as a series of bug fixes and game balance changes. This strategy seems to be designed not only to enrich gameplay but also to strengthen the connection between developers and their player base, reaffirming their commitment to quality and user satisfaction.

The Repo development team, known as semiwork, is in the planning stages of their next update following the release of the acclaimed ‘monster update’. This significant patch, which introduced ten new monsters and new gameplay mechanics, has given a new boost to the player experience, marking a milestone for the game. However, after an October filled with intense activity, developer Pontus has announced that the team will take a short break from releases.

A juicy update

In a recent video, Pontus explained that this period of inactivity is necessary for the team to recover and reflect on the content to include in the next update. “With the ‘monster update’ now available, we are preparing to sit down and decide what the next update should be. Of course, we want your opinion, so please leave a comment below and let us know what you would like to see,” said the developer.

Taking advantage of this moment of calm, the semiwork team has called on the community, inviting players to actively participate in the development, something that is always appreciated in the field of video games. The recent ‘monster update’ has been received with enthusiasm, not only for the introduction of new characters but also for innovative mechanics like “overcharge” and “tumble-grab,” which allow for dynamic and fun gameplay.

Despite the changes implemented and the feedback they expect to receive from their user base, it is important to remember that semiwork is a very small team. Each update represents a significant effort, which makes their commitment to quality and interaction with players even more remarkable. With October now closed, expectations are rising about what will come next in the world of Repo.

The REPO study is clear: they want you to add mods to their game

The development team of the video game REPO has issued a call to mod creators to optimize the amount of traffic they generate on the game’s servers. In a recent Q&A video, the semiwork developers expressed their appreciation for the creativity of the modding community but emphasized the importance of avoiding excessive increases in operating costs. “We encourage mods. It’s very fun to see how players add their own personality to our game,” they commented, insisting on the need to control the traffic they generate. The REPO study is clear: they want you to add mods to their game

The development team of the video game REPO has issued a call to mod creators to optimize the amount of traffic they generate on the game’s servers. In a recent Q&A video, the semiwork developers expressed their appreciation for the creativity of the modding community but emphasized the importance of avoiding excessive operational cost increases. “We encourage mods. It’s very fun to see how players add their own personality to our game,” they commented, insisting on the need to control the traffic that these generate.

This notice arises especially in the context of mods that increase the player limit beyond the maximum of six, which has caused problems in other games. In the past, similar initiatives led to the shutdown of certain mods, as they increased the demand on the servers. Developers are aware that adding more players can be overwhelming, complicating communication and game dynamics, which can affect the overall experience.

Mods yes, but with responsibility

Despite these warnings, the semiwork team supports the creation of mods that do not compromise server performance. There are examples of mods that enrich the gaming experience without overloading resources, such as the MoreHeadPlus mod, which introduces a wide range of cosmetics for robots, allowing players to experiment with fun and creative looks.

With this approach, developers hope to balance the creativity of the modding community and the stability of REPO servers. Although the game has been a resounding success, the semiwork team remains a small indie studio with limited resources. The hope is that modders take this request seriously to maintain a fun and sustainable gaming experience in the future.
