Ubisoft’s most ambitious game will have a movie… 10 years later

Parece ser que Watch Dogs tendrá una película, según ha dejado caer Ubisoft, aunque es algo que ya sabíamos desde 2011… y que habíamos olvidado.

Ubisoft announced some time ago its intention to make a movie based on one of its most important franchises, Watch Dogs. If you don’t remember, we won’t blame you. They announced this at Gamescom in 2013, stating that they were collaborating with Columbia Pictures and New Regency Productions to carry out this project. Since then, nothing has been known. Well, almost nothing. Because it turns out the movie is back on track.

The official Ubisoft account tweeted a small image from the filming along with the hashtag #WatchDogsMovie. Quoting Mathieu Turi in the post, director of the unremarkable El Tubo and Gueules noir films, everything suggests that the movie is in development. It might even be at a much more advanced stage than we would expect.

Actually, although it went unnoticed, the movie was rebooted in 2023, as reported by Deadline at the time. Sophie Wilde would be the lead actress in the film, while Tom Blyth would have an unspecified role. Similarly, they confirmed that Mathieu Turi would be in charge of directing, justifying the quote in Ubisoft’s tweet, and that the script would be handled by Christie LeBlanc, whose only credit is the 2021 film Oxygen by Alexandre Aja. Thus, it seems that we will soon have news about Watch Dogs. Although how good they will be remains to be seen.
