Apple TV is gearing up for Ted Lasso’s return, which will be available Tuesday night in the United States and will have its official worldwide premiere on Wednesday, August 5. After three seasons with a consistent tone and a clear narrative arc, we return to Richmond at a different point, with changes. Will Ted Lasso be as we remember it?
A new team for a new chapter
The biggest change on screen is that the fourth season puts Ted at the head of the Lady Greyhounds, AFC Richmond’s women’s second-division team. That means we’ll see new players and Tanya Reynolds as Alice Chilton, a coach alongside Lasso, something we could already sense in the first look at the season. The series still features Rebecca, Keeley, Roy, and Beard, while the men’s team loses much of the spotlight.
We’ll see very little of Jamie Tartt, Dani Rojas, Sam Obisanya, Isaac McAdoo, and Colin Hughes; and we know that several characters will have a different role.
Creative changes with a promising direction
The second big change happens behind the scenes, as Jack Burditt joins Jason Sudeikis as executive producer and creative lead. His experience on 30 Rock and Modern Family will be key to the structure of a season that aims to recapture the pace of the early episodes. From what we know, Apple seems to have found a very good balance between Sudeikis’s vision and tighter production.
With the return confirmed, tomorrow marks the start of a test for Ted: proving that Richmond can change completely and still making us feel at home.
