There is a lot of information and a lot of buzz around Apple’s virtual reality and augmented reality glasses. These promise to be a real technological revolution, although they will not be the first in the business.
Following yesterday’s news that an apparent Apple shell company is attempting to trademark the term “xrProOS” ahead of a glasses unveiling at WWDC in two weeks, other apparently Apple-linked brands have popped up with two similar terms.
First possible Apple operating system
The first is “realityproOS,” filed yesterday in New Zealand by patent attorney Narly Kalupahana. The application was filed by the same company Immersive Health Solutions LLC that last year sought protection for terms such as “Reality One” and “Reality Pro.”
Rumor has it that these terms could be the names of Apple’s next VR/AR glasses. From here I don’t give a damn that they are going to be called that, but who knows.
Apple’s second possible operating system
The second trademark that has seen activity in recent days is “realOS,” a term that was widely trademarked in Europe last year by an apparent Apple shell company called Realityo Systems LLC to cover various aspects of computers and operating systems.
Realityo Systems also gained some notoriety last year after it was discovered that the company had filed an application to trademark “realityOS” by the end of 2021.
In recent weeks, Realityo Systems has filed additional applications in other countries for the term “realOS” with a much narrower description of “computer operating systems, computer operating systems for integrated circuits.”
A trademark for “realOS” in the United States dating back to 2006 was also previously owned by Fujitsu, but changed hands several times before being acquired by Realityo Systems in November 2022.
In recent days, several trademarks related to operating systems apparently linked to Apple have been registered, including “xrOS”, “xrProOS”, “realityproOS” and “realOS”, but it is unlikely that Apple plans to use them all as public names.
However, it is interesting to see how Apple is trying to protect various options as it prepares to show the world its long rumored headset.
