The big Microsoft event for developers is coming: AI integrations on PC?

The Build conference by Microsoft, which starts this Tuesday, promises to be a standout event for the tech giant, which aims to consolidate its position in the field of artificial intelligence. This edition comes after the recent events of OpenAI and Google, highlighting the intense competition in this area.

Microsoft has a significant advantage thanks to its dominance in the operating systems market with Windows, which provides it with a large user base of PC. Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella, stated that 2024 will be the year when AI will be fully integrated into every PC. The company has already introduced its chatbot Copilot in Bing, as well as in Microsoft 365 (for a fee). Now, PC users will learn more details about the integration of AI in Windows and the capabilities of the new AI-powered PCs.

Microsoft will also integrate chips from AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm into their computers to handle offline AI tasks. These chips, with neural processing units (NPU), are specifically designed for AI tasks, surpassing the capabilities of traditional CPUs.

Companies like Apple have used NPUs to enhance functions such as photos, videos, and voice recognition. The latest chips from Intel, Qualcomm, and AMD, which will be released this year, promise advanced features such as real-time translation and improved gaming environments.

In addition, Microsoft will organize sessions such as “AI Everywhere” and “Azure AI Studio” to explore the development and acceleration of generative AI models and the creation of custom chatbots.

The Build conference takes place shortly after the Google I/O, where Google showcased Project Astra, their most advanced AI model, and its implementation on computers and phones. Shortly before that, OpenAI released their new model GPT-4o, in which Microsoft is a major investor and that powers the technology behind Copilot.
