In 2020, the news broke: Dan Houser, one of the founders of Rockstar Games, had left the company. But far from retiring, he did it to establish a new company: Absurd Ventures. A company in which he sought to create stories in different media, with the aim of making podcasts, movies, series, comics, novels, and also video games. But since then, we have known little about what they have been working on. Until now.
Thanks to a job offer on your website, we have learned that you are working on an open-world action and adventure video game. Furthermore, your goal is to offer “the best third-person combat and action through multiple game modes”. Considering that you are still looking for directors, designers, and producers in the highest possible positions, it is likely that you are still in the early stages of production. And, of course, it will take months or years before we see anything more.
Despite everything, we know two specific projects they are working on. American Caper will be a comic drawn by Simon Bisley that will follow two normal American families who find themselves involved in a world of corruption and political and criminal ineptitude. A Better Paradise will be a podcast that, according to the people at Absurd Ventures, will be an “existential thriller of suspense set in the near future.”
All of this makes us suspect that they won’t be working on something very different from GTA. Something that is confirmed when we discover that along with Dan Houser, two Rockstar veterans are working on Absurd Ventures: writer and producer Lazlow Jones and writer Michael Unsworth.
While there is still a long time to see a video game from this company, it seems likely that we will first see more of their podcast and comic. They are trying to expand them through different media, if they have the success they hope for. That’s why it wouldn’t be surprising if the video game they are working on belongs to the American Caper or A Better Paradise universe. What we do know is that we will be here to cover it.
