We have talked a lot about the applications that Microsoft has announced for its Windows 11 and its new range of computers called Copilot+ PC. And while it seems interesting and positive for users, the reality can be very different… even terrifying.
Despite everything, what Microsoft told us is that these AI-powered tools would only work on computers with the Copilot+ PC seal, so all current users could be at ease with our current computer.
Or so we thought, as we have learned that these tools can be used with any PC running Windows 11 as the operating system. Now things change and we don’t know if it’s for better or for worse.
What does it mean for Recall to work on any computer
Albacore, a Windows documentalist, has ported the Windows 11 feature to a machine with a third-generation Snapdragon 7c Plus and 3.4GB of RAM. In other words, a low-power computer with ARM architecture.
Albacore claims that Recall, which takes periodic snapshots and uses AI to facilitate information search in files, meeting notes, and more, works surprisingly well considering that the chipset does not have the necessary NPU for PC Copilot Plus.
This way, Microsoft loses the excuse to buy for the most demanding users that only Copilot+ Plus computers can take advantage of the new artificial intelligence tools.
