Series based on video games are triumphing in a way that seemed impossible just a few years ago. That’s why it shouldn’t surprise us that FX is going all in on an original production: a Far Cry series. And now we’ve learned that five new actors have been added to its cast who are anything but minor names. With two Oscar nominees among them who are very high-profile right now.
Far Cry is bringing in top-tier talent
Just added to the cast of Far Cry are Oscar nominees Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight, Fargo) and Brendan Gleeson (Spider-Noir, The Banshees of Inisherin), as well as Hamish Linklater (Batman: Caped Crusader, Whisper Your Name), Sam Spruell (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms) and Jamie Demetriou (Only Murders in the Building). making it one of the best-cast series in recent years.
The rest of the cast includes Lizzy Caplan and Steve Buscemi, which makes it clear they want this to be a star-studded series that attracts a general audience. They also seem to be leaning into that with the show’s format: each season will be self-contained and will tell a different story in a different setting, in the style of one of the previous series by its showrunner, Fargo.
While Far Cry still doesn’t have a release date, it looks set to be one of the big surprises of the year it finally premieres. With the cast and the talent behind the camera, it already looks like a safe bet.
